Stiffchezze,

You seem like a very knowledgeable person. Expecially when I comes to metros. I've seen your ride and I'm highly impressed/jelous of it (rudalph). The whole reason for starting this thread was to find out what this might consist of. Sounds like A LOT!! I work 60 hours a week and really don't need a year long project. You have brought up many valuable points which have made me reconsider this decision. If I fix the 1.3 (but have to swap it to a 5 speed) and rebuild the 1.0, that would give me a geo to be proud of. Next find another that needs a 1.0. Then I could have 2 metros!!! I like this idea just as much. I have one question though. Would I need to change the ecm of I swap a automatic for a standard?

Sir Metrologist

Thanks, but I just read alot. :ashamed
And as for Rudolph, don't be jealous, go do it! Nothing in Rudolph is a one-off and can be repeated in any '95+ Metro. ^o)

I don't think it would be a year long project, but at the minimum , with your hours, a few months. But If it's not your primary ride, who cares? :lol
Fixing the 1.3 and swapping the transmission, although still a big undertaking, is a much easier swap.
There may be a mount on the drivers side that needs to be welded on or moved but I'm not 100% on that. I think t3ragtop maybe your best source to confirm that.

I myself have never done the swap, but I have had the privilege of cleaning up other Metro's after a half-hearted attempt was made by a previous owner. :shake

Going from auto to stick does not require a ECU change IIRC but the shift light will not work without it. :hmm

There are some other wiring changes as well. You will either have to leave the transmission rage selector in place (which looks like :shit ) or rewire the starting circuit. I would rewire the starting circuit to add the clutch safety switch if it was me, but not everyone does it. Also you will have to rewire the reverse lights.

There are other things as well that need to be swapped, but overall it's not that bad if you're used to turning some wrenches. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable folks will jump it on the rest.

Mechanically it will bolt right in, a lot of work, but nothing too tough. Your problem is wiring and control. You'll need to find a 96 or 97 3/5 to get the wiring and computer from.

I would rebuild the 1.3 and find a 3.52 5speed to match up to it. I have one in my 95 sedan and am almost ready to get it back on the road from my year long rebuild.

:+1 This is the only way I would attempt this project. Sedan for the base, 90 for the motor, and the 96/97 3/5 for all the random parts and wiring to make it work in the sedan.
