Not much to update yet, but the engine is out and in Missouri, soon to be a Glengine!

In the meantime I've been really busy cleaning everything I can, glass beading all hoses and anything rubber, wire brushing bolts, ceramic coating the exhaust manifold, buying new parts, etc.

Great, beautiful work. How much have you spent on the body and paint work?

Well, that is what I do for a living, so all the labor was by me. I probably spent around $1500 on materials and about $800 for the soda blasting. If this was a customer's car, bodywork included it would have been about a $6500 paint job. I'm sure that sounds insane to a lot of people, but a lot of the paint jobs I do, including making the car straight, get into the $20,000 range. I personally wouldn't, and couldn't spend the $6500 to paint a Metro, luckily I don't have to pay myself!

Actually, soda blasting (baking soda) is the gentlest of all blasting and will not warp even the thinnest of metals. It won't touch rust, because it's not abrasive, but it does a great job of removing paint. Sandblasting is the worst possible thing you could do to sheet metal, not to mention your lungs. It will warp even 1950's metal if you're not really careful, but sandblast a Metro and you have scrap metal. The roof would probably be a nice birdbath.

Awesome, Dean! I'm getting my vert back from the painter tomorrow, and that job cost $3200. Nothing near to the extent as Rainman's, of course. It was hell trying to find a whole-car painter, and I got estimates up to $7700. I'll have to start a thread on Roxy :smackface
