Guys I am in the need of some real help. A couple months ago on my way home from work my water pump failed and I had to replace it. I bought all new seals timing belt and all other belts. I finished it and thought it was all good to go. A little while later I really began to notice while I was in gear if I tried to accelerate the engine would rev but I would not go any faster. I believed this to be my clutch. After all it is a 94 xfi and figured it had never been changed. I changed it with out a hiccup thanks to Johnny mullets step by step guide. My beautiful xfi still has the same problem. I figured it has to do with the timing belt please help!!! I don't want this beauty rotting away in my driveway.

If the engine revs up but the car doesn't go any faster, there is a disconnect somewhere, probably the clutch. Does this happen more commonly in higher gears? Did you adjust the clutch properly? Did you re-use the old pressure plate? Anyway, I still suspect the clutch is the issue.

Recheck all timing marks align properly. Put a timing light on it and set the distributor timing.

Yes more commonly in high gears. I was thinking that it might have been adjustment of the clutch. I am going to check on it and will get back. So you think it may be the pressure plate? I didn't replace that but I did make sure it was clean before I put it back together.

Ok so I had it backwards....... I put a brand new clutch kit in. This includes pressure plate. I was thinking the fly wheel was the pressure plate. Could the old fly wheel be the problem??? That thing looks like a total pain to get off. Not to mention I will have to completely remote it all again.

Ok so I remember when I lined up the timing belt, both notches on the crank shaft and cam shaft did not line up on their own. I had to put the timing belt on the top get (cam shaft?) And twist the crank shaft just a little to have them line up on the engine marks and the pulley marks. Could this be it ?
