I know you can get the pistons out through the top of the block with the head off, but has anyone tried taking them our through the oil pan side? I'm sure they would come out but what I want to know is can it be done without removing the crank? |

Nope; won't happen. The crank journals bearing blocks are in the way.

Well thank you kindly. I guess I'll have to get a head gasket and new head bolts! |

I took a piston out through the oil pan last winter, but most of it was already in it when I took the pan off!
