thrust bearing; how many?

I was reading another post and this came from it. Didn't want to high jack a thread.

that would be a misalignment of the re-drive pushing back on the crankshaft.

the flakes are from the 2 thrust bearings. they are there to keep the crankshaft in position. ;)

when the re-drive is mounted too close to the block it shoves the crank back against the thrust bearings and they wear pretty quickly.

What is a redrive? I only found 1 thrust bearing in my motor when I took it apart, there should be 2?

I'll take a picture of what I found that I think is the thrust bearing.

until someone with more experience on this engine can chime in, ill throw in my 2 cents. most engines only have one crankshaft thrust bearing. also cant think of anything that would really push the crank sideways too much...

Good bye

Glenn will chime in about the bearing setup. A bad torque converter can push hard enough on the crank to ruin the thrust.

i had two on my '86 3cyl.

these motors are pretty tough. ive run my motor in to the ground, no oil, knocking crankshaft. still run and drives, lol. (its parked, BTW)

The engine in the other thread was mounted in an airplane. :)

That is a thrust bearing. There is one on each side of the main bearing you took that one off. I have seen a worn crank move as much as 3/16" in other types of engines, but you should have very, very little if everything's set up right in yours.

That's what I thought, it should have 2. I don't have my block at home it is at the machine shop. I'll have to check the block when I take the pistons there. Looks like on line they sell them in 2's. Are there just standard sizes?
