Hardest engines to work on?

We all know that the G10 is about the easiest but I was wondering about the worst? The Cadillac Northstar comes to mind as do several Chrysler variants (surprise, surprise). What else do people here hate to have to work on?

Fastest Hampster EVER

I asked a mechanic once and he said the Mazda rotary engine sucked. Very hard to crack open and no parts available.

I never cared much for the quad 4. Not hard really just a lot to disassemble. Quite time consuming

2.7 Chrysler is about the worst overall. So it is a pain to work on too? I really didn't think much work besides hauling it to the scrap yard was needed. These things are notorious for coming apart.

We have several 6.4 Liter Ford Diesels, they are difficult to work on and have a long list of problems. I work on a lot of 6.0 Liter Diesels, they were a real pain back in 04. There are many upgrades and I can actually make them last. On the 6.4 you have to jack up or remove the cab to remove the turbos. The high pressure fuel pump is under the turbos. We have one with 70,000 miles at the dealer for repair and the estimate is over $10,000 just for repairs. This is not for a replacement engine, just repair.

Thanks for the heads up.

jack of all trades, master of two

very annoyed at the 6.0 & 6.4 "powerchokes" that I maintain in the fleet. no room whatsoever under the hood for servicing. try a serp belt on a 6.4 dual alternator. or the SEPERATE serp a/c belt, BEHIND the main serp belt.....you need to remove fan shroud bolts on that one, the belt goes AROUND one of them....the guys at work know one of my favorite sayings, "WHO DESIGNS THIS SHIT" or "WHOEVER DESIGNED THIS SHIT NEEDS A KICK IN THE NUTS"

the 3.4 in my 91 cutlass was a hell hole. im pretty sure the car was built around the engine:

step1: get frame

step2: put engine on frame

step3: ???????

step4: PROFIT!!!!! :)

Pretty much any GM V6 or V8 crammed into a front wheel drive chassie. Cant even get a spark plug out without some major ordeal and dont even think about an alternator.

I know some people who had the 6.0 powerstroke. It was a good engine after about $8000-10000 in work as you say. The V8 Northstars are a pain. Pretty much have to remove the upper intake to get at the starter.

I have never been a fan of ANYTHING Chrysler and I hear Mitsubishi is also a pain. The two were connected at one time.

Those front wheel drive vans are always a blast to work on!

IDK the hardest. Most of the time its not the engine, but its all the other crap in the way.
