I have a '98 Metro. Just had the engine replaced (the timing belt end of crank broke off). I believe the exchange motor is from a '96. Runs great but was told by shop that eng check light is on due to a bad EFE (fuel heater?) Was given the one from the old motor. Took off 'top part' to swap them but one from old motor looks 180 degrees backward from what is in there now. Wires would stick out from opposite side of part for the little hole to match up with what is in there now. (Geez, did that even make sense?) Guess what I am trying to ask is: Are these two parts - a '96 and a '98 EFE different? Also, what type of gasket material do I need to use to make one as I can not find one at any parts store. Thank you.

Fel-Pro 61095 and 61030.

VICTOR REINZ Part # G31404 If you want the original style coated steel.

According to Rock auto listing these are good for 95 - 2000.

Felpro 61095 on ebay

61030 on ebay

Looks like the EFE heater should, in theory, be the same as well as the gaskets. The Fel Pro gaskets should be readily available or able to be ordered easily.

Related threads. Worth reading up on. It may not be the heater itself but just the gaskets need replacing.

And lots more about the heater on GMF

Thanks for all the information guys! After 6 weeks of family stuff/bad weather/a head cold/more family stuff, I just got the gaskets from Napa Auto and took another look at the EFE and swapped it out. The confusion was on my end as the gasket made it look different. Once it was out and the gasket pried off, it was the same as the EFE from old motor. Took all of 20 minutes to replace start to finish. Engine started right up and check light was not lit. Going to get it smog cert next weekend. Thanks again. By the way, I need to sell the Metro now. Circumstances and practicality caused us to purchase another car for my wife so I get my Chevy HHR back. Metro has new Tires, Shocks/Struts, Motor (62k miles), Clutch, Brakes, Front Axles, Timing and Alt belts. Asking $2000.00 Anyone interested?
