New member here, picking up my first metro.

I have some insane ideas for it that involve cages and sportbike motors (I own a welding and fabrication business), but for now I just need to get it repaired and on the road.

Body is pretty solid, but I need to do rockers before winter.

The frame/subframe rotted out which is apparently all too common on these cars. Gonna repair that and drive the little beast.

Thanks for reading and looking forward to getting some knowledge from you guys.

Welcome! I am so sorry for you guys up there were cars rust away. I suppose if you have a welding and fabrication shop, you will be able to keep up with the rust a little better than you would otherwise. I will look forward to a project thread...

Thanks for the welcome! :D

Mythstae, yeah, similar to those. But in my opinion those motors are in the wrong part of the car. They belong where the back seat is so the car is RWD in my opinion. :rocker

I specialize in custom motorcycle fabrication for everything from vintage harley davidsons up to modern sportbikes and streetfighters at my shop, so I also do mechanical work on bikes... which is the only reason I bought this car.

Was inspired by the Z-Cars hayabusa powered mini coopers. The problem is that you have to completely rework the suspension from the ground up on them. At least with the Metro I am starting with something that has 50% of what I want from the suspension. Like the Mini's I will have to just cut the pan and restructure it to basically be a cage with a Metro body outside of it. The motor will attach to the cage via a mounting setup and poly mounts so when the motor needs servicing you can literally unbolt the carrier and drop the motor down to the floor and then lift the rear of the car off of it. Drive will be like the Mini's and chain drive sand rails. I'll incorporate a flywheel with a starter mounted in position actuated by a seperate switch for reverse. (Bike motor in Neutral, actuate switch and have a reverse gear).

This is all pretty common stuff in sandrails and stuff.

Having TIG welders, tube benders, waterjet and CNC capability will be a nice thing in this case. Never seen a mid engine RWD sportbike powered Metro.... think it time someone does it.

Perfect little sleepers. :D

I have heard that the metro makes a nice platform to adapt other drive trains to. I have a feeling that you will like this platform, and I look forward to seeing some of these ideas come to life.
