I heard they signed a contract with Geo Jeff to build their engines
He does have new not rebuilt motors apparently. :hmm
I would love to see the documentation on this. The only G10 being used right now as far as I know is the G10b , but it is not a 3 cylinder
However. I am trying to find what it's called.. I saw a 3 cylinder on off road vehicle that's apparently road legal, but not legal,to be sold in California. A very close look revealed a g10 block even the front mount bracket holes were the same , a
Alternator, front pulley, I mean every damn detail was the same.
EXCEPT , it was less than 993 cc and had a 12 valve head.

Healthy capitalism does not give money to private companies. That is why I am against it. The government should not be starting car companies or giving money to existing car companies- its not their role. Well, not in this country- now in China , the government has been funding bad companies for a long time.
If Elio is a great idea then it will work just fine to have private parties fund it. If it is a bad idea , funded by the government and fails then who is going to give me my tax money back ?? Right, nobody. If people really think Elio is a great idea then they should give MORE of their own money for that T-shirt and not confiscate my money to fund their dreams.

Nerys, have you ever driven one of Nissan's $9500 sedans (The Versa)? I have...absolute trash. I mean every bit of that. Flimsy suspension components, sub-standard crash protection, hideous design, cheap cheap cheap materials (both inside and out!) and of course the famous reliability of .....
lmao ranting about how crappy a cheap car is on a GEO METRO forum. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
$9,500 vs $950

it is flat out the WRONG damned transmission for the car.

use the RIGHT transmission
I think the 3-speed is the issue, not the automatic. Also, a CVT would greatly improve fuel economy over the auto and marginally over the manual.
I think you're right about the lack of gear ratios in the automatic. But a CVT is not going to beat a proper manual, ever, in any way. The manufacturers love them because they can program them to beat a manual ON THE EPA TEST. In real life they don't do so well. They're also more problematic than an automatic, which is really saying something, because automatics suck as far as reliability goes.

See, here I am, being misled by the EPA once again. Guess I shouldn't trust any information posted by a government organization. What a pain. This one post here will remove all the CVT praise I have handed out up until this post.

I dislike the word 'proper'. Makes me feel like my 5 speed isn't good enough :(

I'm the first one to bash ANY government agency, but in this case I think we need to give EPA a bye. They set up a test to provide some sort of comparison instead of the manufacturers just throwing out wild numbers. Just look at the wild numbers you see here, people get 40 - 70 mpg with the same spec car. As with any sort of specification, the manufacturers design to the spec. You can't really blame them either, it's just the way it is. Just look at the stereo business, especially car stereo. You need to take any wattage specification and divide by four just to start getting any meaningful numbers.

The EPA has a tough job, I'll give them that I suppose. But from what I remember, the CVT rating is usually better than the manual trans rating.

Also, my Metro is automatic :( My Honda is a 5-speed though :hmm
