Thanks for the advice. That ZEP fast 505 I used to clean the trans. The inside part of the bell housing. Came clean really easy, only had to scrub it a little and it rinsed clean. |

It's a really nice day out so I thought I would work on the car some more. My exhaust has gotten really loud while I drove the car yesterday. Drove it up on some ramps to check it out. The O2 sensor and bung had come loose and was just hanging down. Don't have the extra money right now to redo the exhaust. So I went to the auto store and got some exhaust repair stuff. Got some putty and wrap to see if I can make it last for a while. Got the putty applied to the sensor bung and pipe. ![]() It's not pretty but hopefully it will holed for a while. Got to let it set up overnight and then I'll wrap it tomorrow and put it all back together and see how it works. Got busy with the vacuum cleaner to try and get rid of some of the dust, dirt, dog hair, and what ever was left in the back of this car. Still have to use some cleaner and get rid of the gooey stuff left behind. ![]() Got the weekend off and the grandkids are coming over so maybe I can get them to help me clean up the rest of the interior. Thank you, thank you very much! PS That paste thing won't work here in VA because of our state inspection program. Either has to be welded or replaced. Had to replace the last one. Too thin to weld. Edited by Car Nut, Jan 17 2015, 05:35 AM.

Didn't work here either. The putty might work for a patch but not to hold something on. Too cold here to cure out. Felt kinda secure but as soon as I hooked up the exhaust and tried to reconnect the wiring it pulled loose. So I cut the exhaust pipe half way back, cleaned off all the putty and welded it up. Now it won't fall off till the next time. Hopefully it will get replaced before that happens. I have to get a connector and a couple of clamps to put it back together. I'll try and post some pics of the fix. Edited by freegeo, Jan 17 2015, 05:40 PM.

Got the putty removed and the O2 sensor bung welded back on.![]() Started it up to find out I had other leaks downstream. Used the wrap I bought the day before to fix one of them. Then realized the pipe right in front of the muffler is bad. Back to the auto parts store for another piece of pipe and clamp. Couldn't find a piece of pipe that would fit inside of the muffler so had to find one that went over the outside of it. Cut 4 slots in the end of the pipe and tapped it with a hammer to make it a tight fit. [/URLWelded the pipe to the muffler were the slots were. ![]() Got it all put together and it is so much better. Still a little loud but I think the muffler is about shot inside. It is the original. |

Hopped in the car today and went to pull a part this morning. Car did very well. I'm starting to figure out this car and the 3.79 trans is a different animal. In town I can cruise in 3rd gear and get better mileage than cruising in 4th. Same as on the highway. I run in 4th gear instead of 5th. I do use 5th gear on the interstate though. Got me a extra timing cover that I can cut down. Got it home and cut it down and cleaned it up. Got the timing marks painted and got it mounted. ![]() Going to check the timing but forgot I let my son borrow it. Have to get me another one tomorrow. |

Trying to get the cluster with tach ready to put in. Got the numbers adjusted on the odometer so I can keep track of the miles on the re built engine.![]() Plan on taking a picture of the current cluster and putting the picture in the glove box so I can keep track of how many miles I have on the car |

Got my timing set finally. Was about 7 or 8 BTDC. Set now at 10 - 11 BTDC. Seems to have a little more pep on the take off. This car is a little different than my 96. With the 3.79 trans in it I have to run a lower gear to keep the mpg up. Gonna take a little time to figure how to drive this one for good mileage. |
