Gonna take a little time to figure how to drive this one for good mileage.

Roger that. :thumb Just because you have 5 speeds does not mean that you have to use all of them, all the time. :news Watch the gauges and select the gears accordingly. :hmm I'm still on the learning curve too. :'( Bonus is, practicing is fun. :drivin

Oh I plan on getting plenty of practice.

Plan on changing my oil this weekend. I'll have about 300 miles on the engine by then. My oil filter seems to be leaking some at the gasket. I'll have to clean it up good and see if it stops. Either that or the oil pressure sending unit is leaking.

Got my cluster with tach ready to go in, See if I can get it in this morning.

Everything works on the cluster, so I'm happy there. Have to check if the speedometer and odometer is correct. My odometer is set a 0 miles and now I can remember how many miles it has on the rebuild.

:cheers :rocker

Have had some decent weather this week. Got my broke down driver seat removed and took the one out of the car I got from my brother. This thing is so much better to seat in.

Also removed the original cluster and put the one in that has a tach in it. Rolled the odoemeter back to 0. Now I can remember how many miles are on my rebuilt engine.

All the gauges work and the tach reads correct so that is a plus.

Got my oil changed for the first time since the rebuild. It has about 300 miles on it now. Changed the oil filter and seen where it had some oil on the outside of it before taking it off. Thought maybe the rubber seal was leaking a little. Once I got it all changed realized the oil pressure sending unit is causing the leak.

Checked the plugs while changing the oil and they look pretty good.

Nice !

New car, and it looks as if you gained some gas too. B-)

Speedo and odo should read the same as your old one, the difference is in the drive unit and the wheels/tires.

Thanks woodie.

I haven't drove a metro without a tach except for this one. The gas gauge in the non tach cluster seems to drop a lot faster, possibly due to it being larger. When I put the one in with the tach it moves much slower to empty. Not that it is using any less gas.

Been working on my car but just with the idle speed control. Got it figured out but have some more tweaking to do.

They just put a couple more metro's out this past week and I went out to see what the had.

Found me a different piece of carpet for my car. You ever seen anything like this! Still has the dealer plastic on it.

Should clean up real nice. That will have to wait until it warms up. Can't beat it for $12.95. The car it came out of only had 77000 miles on it. Wish I had the extra money to get the engine out of it.

Clearly the buyer read the instructions and left it alone. :whistle

I bought my 00 Swift with 99000 miles on it 3 years ago and I just hit 119000 miles this week, that's a little over 6000 miles a year :lol I drive 4 miles to work everyday and to the grocery store once a week so not much use :P

Bought a cheap usb wire camera that will fit inside the spark plug hole. Took a few pictures with it and thought I would post it. Car has about a 1000 miles on it now, plugs look good but there is some carbon build up on the pistons already. I have been running some MMO in the gas to see if it helps some.

I need to find a way to get more light into the hole so the picture comes out better.

Is there more carbon build up in a engine that is drove around town more than one driven on the highway?

I drive about 15 miles a day for work. That's 3,600 miles in a year. Add some more miles for recreational activities and errands which can make it no more than 5,000 miles. It would take me 14 years to reach 70,000 miles. :s

Depends entirely on how you drive it. Town driving, always hitting low RPMs, stop and go, rarely reaching operating temps, poor fuel quality, less than frequent oil changes would cause carbon to build up. This is a common problem on VW 1.8T engines -- the engine doesn't like short drives -- it prefers long drives, otherwise sludge starts to build up and we have a problem. I'm tacking this issue with my wife's car by using synthetic oil, more frequent oil changes, and adding fuel injector cleaners. Thankfully, the 1.0L engine is more resilient.

What would burn those carbons off is a mix of seafoam and high RPM revving. If you drive in town, try to stick to low gears and rev high every now and then. Bad for MPG in the short term, good for the engine in the long term.
