We don't have pick & pulls around here. They'd charge me an arm and a leg for one of those around here...I'll have to settle for painting mine. Humm...I wonder what purpose the hump in the middle of where the back seat goes is for... Edited by Stubby79, Apr 29 2015, 08:49 PM.

i have had some trouble with the idle being rough on my car since the rebuild. I found a low mileage 3 cylinder at pull a part a while back. So the plan is as of now to go through the low mileage engine and swap it out with the one I rebuilt. ![]() Got it on the engine stand and got the pistons out of it and soaked them in kerosene over night. Looked like this to begin with. ![]() After a little scrubbing with a brass brush it turned out like this. ![]() While i had the rings off cleaning the groves I put the pistons back in the cylinders and checked the clearance on the connecting rod bearings. All 3 were between .001" and .0015". Well with in the factory specs. Going to try and get the oil pump off tomorrow and get it cleaned up. |

Been spending a lot of time a t work so not got as much done on my engine as I had hoped. Go the block all cleaned up and started putting things back together. Installed the crank yesterday and checked the crankshaft end play. At .008" so that is in spec and good to go. ![]() Got the pistons put back in this morning. ![]() ![]() Hopefully I can get the oil pump and water pump back on it tomorrow night. I was suppose to be off this weekend and hoped to get more done. Should be working on the head next week. Oh, got a altrom full gasket set at napa this week, Was on sale so that helped save a little money. Bought me a 4.10 trans a week or so ago. So when this engine is ready to go back in it will be the 4.10 trans that will go in. Anyone interested in buying my old 3.79? Edited by freegeo, Jun 27 2015, 11:39 AM.

Thanks snowfish. I plan on making sure the holes on this one is opened up. I even found some hole punch tools just for that. If I have an engine that oil farts I think I'll just set it on fire and push it over a cliff. That will fix it.

Got my oil pump and water pump back on last night. Put the oil pump pick up tube back on today. Plan on getting the head tore down and start cleaning on it tomorrow. Need to clean the oil pan up also to be able to button up the bottom end of the engine. |

Thank you. This engine is going together faster than the last one. Starting on the head today. Hope to get it disassembled and a few things cleaned before work. |

Got started on the head this morning. Pulled the plugs and started on the valves. If any of you are going to work on your head and need to remove the valves. Get one of these. They work great. ![]() Less than 10 minutes and had it all taken apart and parts bagged up. ![]() Here is what I have to start with. Hopefully by the weekend I can get it to look a whole lot better. ![]() |

Head is cleaning up nice. Got the valves all wire brushed off. Just got to get them and the spring hardware cleaned and I can start getting the head back together. Try and get some pictures posted of the progress tomorrow. |
