Yes I am. I got a full gasket kit and plan on using almost everything in it.

You know snowfish after I read this I looked at the exhaust valves and there is a little pitting on the sealing surface.

It is either get these ground which would probalby cost about as much as new ones. I need new head bolts anyway. I'll take a look on rockauto and see what they cost . If I remember right it wasn't that much for my last head.

The intake valves looked really good.

I took your advice snowfish and ordered new exhaust valves along with new head bolts. Should have them monday so won't get it completely put back together this weekend. That's okay it won't take very long to lap the valves and put them in.

I got my new starter installed and and went to start it and got absolutely nothing. Well :shit . First I thought maybe the starter could be bad, so I got a lengthy piece of 10 gauge wire and added a connector to the end of it. Hooked the connector to the solenoid and touched the other end of the wire to the positive of the battery. Starter cranked right up.

Time for the FSM to see what has happened. Looked up the stater and charging section and go to the chart # 2 Engine does not crank and solenoid does not click.

# 1 check for voltage at the wire to the solenoid. No voltage present.

# 2 check for voltage at the clutch position switch. Had voltage to it but not coming out of it. Got my flashlight to see under the dash better and realized the wire had come off the switch. Re attached it and the car started right up. Better than before.

Lapped my intake valves tonight and used a stone to flatten the head gasket surface. Still have to check it with a straight edge but it looks like it will be ok.

Wire brushed the oil pan to get the surface rust and loose paint off of it. Going to run it through the ultrasonic cleaner once more to get the silicone and rust off of it before primer and paint.

I'll try and get some pics up of the progress.

Got my new exhaust valves monday and had some time the last few days to to get them lapped in.

Only need to wire brush the outside of the head and get the old valve stem seals off. Put the new seals in and assemble the valves and springs.

Bosses at work said today that we should have the weekend off so I should have time to work on the engine again. Hopefully I can get the oil pan primed and painted tomorrow if it doesn't rain.

your starter issue is how i got my red car so cheap, the previous owner did not wamt to spend $$$ to fix starter issues and my dad fixed the issue by just plugging the wire on.

Your right. Sometimes people will get rid of something due to something simple going wrong and not wanting to mess with it.

Now that's looking great! :thumb If you haven't already, good idea to make sure the oil gallerys are clean, clean, clean. :gamerz Easy to pull the plugs and rinse/blast everything out. :cheers

I have run the head through the ultrasonic cleaner a number of times. I keep that in mind before I put the head back on.

It has been raining like everyday. Did get a chance to wire brush the oil pan one more time and get some rust converter primer on it.

Couple coats of paint and ended up with this.

It is not perfect but neither is the rest of the engine. Just got to let it dry a few days to harden up before putting it on the block.

I have the weekend off and no grand kids to mess with. Next week I work monday and tuesday and have the rest of the week off. Hopefully if things work out I maybe able to start swapping engines.

The watery substance that comes from above.
