Decided today was the day for putting on the head. Can't forget the check valve!

Almost forgot the location pins for the head. :smackface

Used some allen head bolts with washers and remembered I didn't have a wrench for that. Trip to the auto parts store.

Torqured it down per FSM in 4 steps to 54 ft lb. It is done.

Got to get ready for work.

it's funny, isn't it, that you spend a bunch of time on the block assembly but when it's time to bolt the head on it takes minutes to double the size of the engine. :D

commence with the port and gasket matching. ;)

Port and gasket matching? Exhaust side or intake side? What would the benefits be? I'm going to run a XFI cam and am looking for better gas mileage.

I am the one on the left.

Exhaust side- won't negatively impact mileage, but will increase FLOW-
So your motor can breathe- this is done on the exhaust manifold- your head is done- don't dink with it.

Yea my head is done and on already. I'll get the exhaust manifold off and put the gasket it on and see how much would have to come off. Shouldn't take too long it's not a v8.

Got the exhaust manifold off but the bolts broke in the process. :(

Good news they didn't break off flush with the manifold. There is hope for it yet. If I don't have to work saturday then I want to go to pull a part and see if maybe they have one in a little better shape.

Got up early today and went to pull a part to see if there was any parts for my engine. Found one car a 95 that had the 3 cylinder in it. I took the lifters out of it and am in the process of cleaning them up. Going to soak them in oil over night before putting them in. Found a killer set of spark plug wires on it to. Wanted to get a new set for it but couldn't resist buying these at $.95 a piece.

If I don't have any trouble in the morning I hope to get the cam and sprocket installed. Take the A/C components off the car. Already have the a/c compressor off of it.

Did find a little rust were the fuse box is in the engine compartment. Looks like someone had a battery the leaked and got acid on the paint.

Getting really excited! :cheers

If everything goes as planned I hope to have the motor and trans back in it by the end of the month. Seen today that one end of the heater core is kinda crushed slightly. Think I need to change it while the engine is out and it is easy to get to. Not sure how easy it is to get to from inside yet.

Going to do a first time fire video. Hope is starts! LOL My luck I'll forget a ground wire and it won't start.

I have thought about it a lot. Thinking of a name that is. This might sound weird but I am going to call it TED. Mean to use the letters as initials instead of the name TED. The car will be named this in horor of my brother Tom ( Thomas E Dose, he just recently passed away). I wouldn't even have ever owned a Metro if it wasn't for him buying one first (and me finding this great site).

He had it for a few years and the back of it got rust issues. He had already bought another vehicle and just didn't want the car anymore and that's how I thought up my user name for this site. freegeo. I got the car from him and started looking for a new body to use. Checked craigslist just about everyday for anything locally. Took about a year or so and found the blue car I currently drive. The clutch had went out but the car is still pretty solid and runs good. So I replaced the clutch and drive it every day.

After driving my blue car for a few years now and seeing what they are capable of i'm hooked. Found this green car a couple hours away from home and my brother helped me get it home. Originally thought about using the motor out of the free car but it being a 4 cylinder auto I opted to rebuild the 3 cylinder engine in the green car. Going to use the interior from the free car since it is in good shape (except the dash it is faded).

So TED it is!

Wow that was a nasty exhaust. Some wire brush that and hit it with high temp paint to prevent rust. Looks great on the build how fun :thumb
