I have thought about it a lot. Thinking of a name that is. This might sound weird but I am going to call it TED. Mean to use the letters as initials instead of the name TED. The car will be named this in horor of my brother Tom ( Thomas E Dose, he just recently passed away). I wouldn't even have ever owned a Metro if it wasn't for him buying one first (and me finding this great site).

He had it for a few years and the back of it got rust issues. He had already bought another vehicle and just didn't want the car anymore and that's how I thought up my user name for this site. freegeo. I got the car from him and started looking for a new body to use. Checked craigslist just about everyday for anything locally. Took about a year or so and found the blue car I currently drive. The clutch had went out but the car is still pretty solid and runs good. So I replaced the clutch and drive it every day.

After driving my blue car for a few years now and seeing what they are capable of i'm hooked. Found this green car a couple hours away from home and my brother helped me get it home. Originally thought about using the motor out of the free car but it being a 4 cylinder auto I opted to rebuild the 3 cylinder engine in the green car. Going to use the interior from the free car since it is in good shape (except the dash it is faded).

So TED it is!
That's beautiful :'( And I'm sorry for your loss.

I used Krylon Dual superbond for the black. It is paint and primer in a can. The engine is Rustoleum hammered silver in a spray can. If any of the bolts or metal pieces had rust on them I wire brushed it real good then put Rustoleum rust reformer on it before painting it.

Got my new exhaust manifold. Not excited about it at all. Very poor craftsmanship, Not going on the car. Stay away from the ones made in china. Pull a part just got a nother metro in this week. Have to go see if it has a 3 cylinder with a good exhaust.

Got a couple more things painted, Valve cover and water pump pulley.

I know some of you don't use a timing belt cover or you have one cut down. Has anyone modified theirs so you don't have to take the belt pulley off the crank to get their cover off? Just need the cover for setting the timing.

I've got my time marks on the cover and every thing is cut off. Just 2 10mm bolts hold the pice that the time marks are on. I can slip the belt under the pice of cost after removing 1 bolt.

"Edit" I can't get a picture up because I updated to the latest software for the iPhone and the app won't work now. But the pictures are probably in my build page some where :news

Been working on the trans to get it cleaned up so I can get this thing together. Had a broken bolt from the mount. Part of the bolt was still sticking out. Found a video that had a idea I had never heard of.

Heat the area with a torch. Can be a hand help torch.

Posted Image

Once the area around the bolt gets hot take a candle and stick it in the hole and on the broken bolt. The heat melts the wax and it runs into the threads around the bolt.

Posted Image

Heat the area to were it gets hot again. Take a hammer and tap the end of the broken bolt. This wil help break the rust loose.

Put a pair of small vise grips on the bolt and try to break it loose. You may have to do more than one cylce of heating and applying wax to get it to break loose.

Used some Eastwood rubberized rust encapsulator to spray on the frame horns while the engine is still out. Ordered some nternal frame coating also but it never arrived. Had to re order it from some place else. I want to get it done before I put the engine back in.

Once I get the new trans output shaft seals this thing is going back in. Hope to have it running by thanksgiving.

Thanks Mythstea.

Stiffchezze and a couple others gave me the insight on how to get it cleaned up and in better shape.

This car was not treated very well before I got it. It was quite neglected. Just trying to give it some love that it deserves.

Took my alternator over to autozone to have it checked before it all goes back in. Everything passed on it so I shouldn't have any problems with the charging of the battery.

Finally had some time over thanksgiving to work on the car again. Got the flywheel, and trans all together and bolted to the engine. Dropped it in the car.

Got me a different radiator at Pull a Part over the weekend.

Just have to get the distributor, wiring, exhaust, fuel filter, fuel lines and cooling stuff to see about firing this thing up for the first time.
