I didn't see anything wrong with the alternator as it was, but it sure looks different somehow now... The flat black "accents" on the silver engine look most excellent. You did a very nice job.

I don't thing the bearing in alternator would of lasted very long. The grease in it was dry and looked like paste wax. I'm sure it would of worked, just didn't want to put something that dirty and oily back on something clean. I tried to just use the colors that were already there. I like the looks of it to. Hope it runs half as good as it looks and I will be happy. Hoping for some decent weather to finish this thing up. |

So how did you get it SO clean? Enquiring minds would like to know. |

I used a ultra sonic cleaner with a solution of simple green and water. It is a heated unit, I am so glad I spent a little more for the heated one. The hot water makes a big difference how clean you can get it. When it is really dirty like the alternator was you may have to brush it a little to help get the heavy deposits off. Took maybe a hour to get the whole thing cleaned up. |

Had a little time to get some more done. Got the throttle body, exhaust, and radiator left to put in. Getting closer.

A hammered silver engine, rebuilt to spec, and is that a "long" Pure One filter I see .... I believe I have seen that "MO" before (in fact, I have even seen that MO in MO)... It's looking very nice there free. I'm sure when you are done it is going to run every bit good as it looks.

It is a long pure filter! I bought it to put on my blue metro I currently drive but didn't realize I couldn't use it with a air conditioner compressor on the car. I don't have air on the green car so figured it would be good to use on it. If it runs half as good as it looks I will be extactic! |

Got a couple of questions. I have deleted my air from the car. What can I use to plug off the lines from the ac that goes inside the car? Thought about corks i could place inside the line but I'm afraid it would get bad and part of it would get inside the line. Maybe large vacuum line caps? ![]() While replacing the vacuum lines I found a broken fitting. Are these still available or will I need to take another road trip to the pull a part? ![]()

I have had a great day. First off I have the weekend off and no grand kids to keep me from working on my car. Figured I would try and get my original exhaust fixed so I could get my car running. Thought about drilling the hole bigger and welding a nut to the top of it. Ended up grinding the broken bolt down flush and drilled the hole out to 11/32" which amazingly was easy and tapped the hole to the original size. Was scared the broken bolt was going to come loose and screw my threads up. Used original bolts so it looks normal. Still want to get another exhaust manifold and get it cleaned and painted. ![]() Got the exhaust bolted on and then worked on getting the thermostat and radiator in. Got down to the upper radiator hose and realized it had a hole in it. Went to a couple of auto stores and no of them had a hose. Well . Went home and checked the hose on the 4 cylinder auto car and it looks real similar. Took it off and it is a little longer but but will work without pinching the hose. Filled the radiator and put oil in it. Got the battery tray in it even though it looks like crap yet. It is easy to take out and clean up. Unfortunately it got dark before I could try and fire it up for the first time. In the morning it will be the first thing I do after I get up. FIRST FIRE VIDEO TOMORROW! Woo Hoo!

you would be better off collecting that solenoid from a junk yard. the new ones run about $90 at the cheapest and have 2 supercession part numbers. |
