As I pulled into my street. Oil light came on. I turned off for a second and it went off, enough to get it in the driveway. I smelled oil few minutes before I got there opened the hood oil all over the freaking passenger side . Never leaked for 8 months 140 miles a day 5+ days a week and wham! New seals Pissed oil all over the place. It looks as if the crank seal backed out despite being glued tight with black silicone.
It was pretty dramatic as the timing belt slung it everywhere.. I may change that sooner than planned now.. :banghead

If it had to happen, you couldn't have timed it better!

Driving me nuts. Now no leaks nothing.. But there is wrrrrr kind of knock noise, not a rod knock, or lifter noise.. Almost like a roller bearing noise.. I almost wonder if the oil pump is acting up. Maybe the seal backed out.. Can't really see down there, except with no timimng cover oil was everywhere, nothing now. Everything was cleaned .i topped the oil off.
How often does the oil breather / PCV valve get clogged on these?
I got a couple parts motors , but I have other plans , like clean my garage, so I can do shit. I need a break, not a screwed up weekend..

It is usually the cam seal that blows out. Not the crank seal. The following explains the reason as well as what has solved my problems since.

Okay.. I am going to look but the silicone and all that jazz hasn't budged. Maybe it is in weird , or I need to try another cam if a seal groove is wore in it? It appears as if from the top, but is hard to see as it just still whips a drop of oil from the timing belt still, but not pissing as before..

When oil gets on that belt like before it goes all over the damn place!

"Cam seals popping out because of pressure are common or shall I say I have seen several on this forum but it is usually because someone has restricted the oil passage with sealant."

-BigRhino

I will check this pronto, I may have gotten sealant happy. First I am going to clean or replace the PCV.. Just got to cook dinner and chill

Well it was the crank seal that walked out

When I changed it last as I got this engine for the boneyard, I jb welded the key in place as it was wallowed, used a long freaking cheater bar and had bars stuck in the wheel lugs pushing into the ground as I tightened it. The bars in the wheels into the ground in gear virtually almost lifting the front of the car as I tightened it.. Even with red loctite, this jb weld no likey my 7000 rpm shifting in first, barking second, blowing my clutch recently, driving with the speedo pointing down and other era tic behavior.dumping the clutch in every gear :D.it went 45,000 miles with such abuse. I have a spare,I pulled out before, install new set of rings, I am going to throw it in with my good head I got with stainless valves. Monday it needs to roll 240 mile round trip everyday till December at least.

Edit: Got to have emotions. :rocker :nfs :whistle :rad :rofl

I got it back together. I opened the wallowed slot more and welded the key solid to the crank, and after the die grinder, polished it down to size with the Dremel. I slid the old seal back in before doing this, blew the dust off before re removing the old seal...the new timkin seal fits freaking tight.. So hopefully it stays..

It fit snug so the bolt had to draw it in, but wasn't too resistant. Took the bolt back out loaded it with red loctite and tightened it with my 4 ft pipe...

hopefully your crankshaft sprocket was easier to get off than mine-I never have seen anything like my 96 1.3 setup-I had to take it off again for about the 4th time and broke my pulley with the gear puller-it took about a full day with screwdrivers, tire irons. torches and hammers-broke the sensor gear of my new sprocket for the second time-burred up my new oil pump so bad I can't put a new seal in-bent my new small gear puller, a real pain in the ass-the gear doesn't need to be that friggin tight-I was thinking of going to a machine shop and see if I can get the sprocket hole on the gear enlarged a little-my 95 3 cylinder the gear comes right off-
