Oh, I forgot to mention that I set the timing to 6 degrees BTDC per the info decal inside the hood. Is that acceptable? I've read that 10 BTDC might be better.

My vert pinged when I set mine to anything other than 6 degrees. I suggest what the decal says myself.

get the engine from geoglenn. drive for 250,000+ miles and dont worry.
or drive to jonnnymullets place...and have him refresh the engine. smile its done right for very little money.
or pay a shop that doesnt know and understand suzuki G series engines a ton of money to redo the work...drive a few thousand miles..rinse and repeat.

Obviously this is just one option, but if you are as fond of this car as it seems you are, seriously consider getting (or doing) a full and proper rebuild from someone with an outstanding reputation for G10 rebuilds, and make it the last engine your Metro will ever need.

The fact that it will also run as smooth, strong, and efficiently as it possibly can will put a huge smile on your face all summer long, and any time through the winter when you think about getting it out again. :D

Here are the valve stem specs for a 1.0 engine as listed in a 95 metro fsm. Glenn just got his pictures mixed up.

I didn't have what it took to read all the posts? Did someone mention that Aera has a tech bulletin that attributes burnt valves in this cars to a clogged catalytic converter???

Oh and some stainless steels are magnetic. 700 series alloys if I recall correctly.

The compression on the two non-burned valve cylinders is way below spec as I assume the one that burned the valve would be much the same if the valve was good. You never said but I would guess you are constantly adding oil to this thing. Is it an oil burner?
