Hello I am a new member and I need help.I have a 91 lsi that I love but it's current 3cylinder sounds like the pistons are ready to trade places.I just bought a 97 that has a perfectly fine smooth running engine, good clutch, quiet trans. It is rusty and it has a broken frame everything else is very good. The 91 is solid. So I want to revive it with the 97.Hopefully you have done something like this and can help me.Mechanically things look straight forward but I don't know for sure. Will the91 axles fit the 97 trans? Will I need to swap the wiring and the ecm? |

I took a 93 5 speemotor and tray and swapped it into my 92 vert that was an automatic. You might be able to use the 92's wiring if you are able to use the old intake on the new motor. You would surely have to change at leat the transmission mount. Being a different body style I dunno about the axle length or the splines or the clutch pedal. I'm sure other much more knowledgeable members will chime in. |

Ok...just my $.02...the engine itself will interchange assuming its a 1.0, but, you will have to use your original intake and O2 sensor, probably also switch out the original cam and crank gears for future timing belt replacement issues (it doesn't necessarily have to be done, just would be easier in the future)...because yours is a OBD1 you will not need the crank sensor (and again, swapping out the oil pump and oil pan would be nice for future purposes, but not necessary), would also swap distributors...this way you don't have to swap out computers, wiring harnesses, hoses. and such...use the half shafts from the Metro your going to use, they will plug into the trans...as stated above, the trans might have to use the same mounts on the Metro your going to use....and your going to have to swap out the speedo gears from the trans...I know I am probably missing stuff and others will chime in.. and I would probably rebuild the one you remove and have it read just in case its ever needed ..
