Been lurking on here for a while, finally joined cause I got around to doing stuff to my car.
My name is Travis and I picked up a 3/5 1997 Geo Metro back in February of this year with 128,xxx miles on it. Ran ok then, runs great now
This is what 800 bucks gets you around here:

The interior was nasty! Don't think this poor thing had ever been cleaned :scared It looked as though the windows had been left down while it was mowed around for months- fortunately, no mold but lots of dirt and filth!
So the tear-down began:

I was surprised at how easily everything came out.

At the car wash:

Happily, the carpet looked brand new when it dried!

Thought this was weird until someone pointed out that I've done this exact same process of tearing apart cleaning and rebuilding to every car, truck and bike I've ever had- I'm not alone in this... right? :hmm
Going from 300 horsepower to like 27 HP and maybe 13 lb-ft.tq was quite a shock though. Got everything spiffed up and clean and I lasted a whole 6 days before I did my first mod to it:

In the 6 months since then, I've put 5k miles on it back and forth to college and work. Driving this, vs. my truck, it has already paid for itself in fuel savings alone!

I've also added a front air dam (thanks Lowe's Garden Dept.) onto a new-to-me 1996 bumper, a plexiglass complete grille block, rear tire spats, painted the factory wheels and added some additional driving lights to help out my poor headlights.

I found that 60mph+ on these 90°F+/32°C+ Texas days, my radiator is just not up to par with a grill block on; untill cooler weather arrives this is how it sits:

Look- No dash cancer! ... except that little square thingy :P

Under the hood cleaned up really well too

In the last week I put on new plugs, wires, cap & rotor via RobieTheRobot.com (drives COMPLETELY different now), new pads, rotors and fresh brake fluid throughout. Never realized how much of a pedal feel difference could be felt by changing the brake fluid, but I believe it now!

Made a rear hatch release from a compact truck hood release cable (by FAR my favorite mod) and just finished putting in a cargo light in the back tonight (will link when posted). In the future I'd like to add some skirting down the sides to match the front and possibly wheel covers in the rear.

Though I like my stuff clean, but this thing is never going to be a showcar- I'm probably not even going to try to fix the body damage it has, but if someone has a Slate Green Metallic hood they want to get rid of... :deal

Welcome. Nice color. Shame it's got the side caved in. Underhood shot looks great. I'm jealous. :thumb

Neither. The dash wasn't in terrible condition i.e. flaking off, but it definitely needed something done to it. I found in the past from cleaning and detailing our bikes with it, some motorcycles' unpainted plastic will absorb Pledge and bring back some color if it sits long enough in a cool environment. So I got some Pledge from the house and sprayed the dash down thick, & let it sit overnight. Came back the next morning did the same and wiped it all off. That's what is in my picture- repeat every 6 months or so :drivin

Its certainly no miracle worker, but its not as drastic as pulling the dash out to paint it either..

I like the Lemon scent.

Wait a minute.....you're trying to tell us you have a good running, halfway decent looking Metro....for $800? I thought only $3000 to $5000 gets a nice Metro? :P

(subtle yet intentional dig at some in this forum!)
