Debating whether I should thin out the herd (actually to make room for maybe another one soon). The '99 2dr hatchback (automatic) has 213K miles on it. It's running great (wife is getting ~35-36 mpg). The '91 Metro has only 96K miles (automatic) and I had to dump an extra $250 into it in parts to get it to pass inspection. The '90 SuchiZuki is off the table, I like driving that little 5-speed too much. Only three cars is a herd, you say? Well, on top of those cars, we have the '03 Fucus, the '03 Harley and the '02 Dakota...yeah, its a herd. I'm lending toward donating the '99 to my church. They have a restoration ministry where they take donated cars, get them into reliable running condition and then give them to families in need. Besides maybe an oil change, the '99 is ready. The plus side is its a tax write off; KBB value (~$1200). I'll have to talk to my wife. Though the metros are 'my' cars, she's driving the '99, but I think she would be fine with the '91. I'm still uncertain what to do with the '03 Fucus - its really her car, so I'll have to see what she wants to do. At the end of all this, bottom line -I do not want any car payments. Thanks for the outlet. |

Re: donations. Many people think that they get the 'value' of the car back on their income tax--not so. You get the income tax percentage of the value. --ie-- if you are in the 10% tax bracket you will get $120 back on a $1200 value donation........ just saying........... |

Your wife may like the 99 better, the 91 has smaller tires smaller brakes and the interior is less "nice" in my opinion. The 99 would probably be worth keeping, I think. |

Thin the herd? I have cars hidden all over the place from family and wife. 14 total but some of them are parts cars! that is how I justify keeping all of them. and having 2 shops and over 38 acres to hide them on helps! Donating to the church is a good idea!

Well...there's my problem! I've only got .5 of an acre. Makes it harder to hide stuff.

...if only.
I'll have to convince my wife of that, but then again, she's seen me start pulling an alternator on it at 630 pm and not getting it finished until 11pm. Yeah, sometimes its a real bitchkitten. |

Dump the Focus & the 91. Older models getting too hard to find parts for. Sold my 94 xfi because of that. Probably gonna sell the newly aquired 91 xfi too. Working on a 96 to keep. Could / would she drive a stick if you could find a nice one? |

Oh, yeah, she would not mind a stick. I just have to convince her that these cars are safe & reliable. She's worried about the 11 yo & 7 yo riding in it. Heck, keep 'em riding in back. John (7 yo), my son always rides in the back seat. So far, she's been driving the '99 for a week and hasn't complained. If it had the dents fixed on the hood and a new paint job, it would be a sweet looking ride. I told her that if I ever found another 'vert it would be stick (thinking she would not be driving it). She said she would be driving it too. NOOOOOO...not my future vert... |

PLus the 99 has air bags...that's important ( To me at least) if you want your wife to have some sort of safety measure. Have you seen the video showing the Metro in a crash with and without air bags. Lets just say that the dummy had a close and personal relationship with the steering wheel and windshield ! |

Oh, you know you will always get opinions on GMF if you use us for your outlet. Who are you making payments on? Who costs the most to insure? Who's not pulling their weight in the herd? Who's not displaying "herd mentality" and not displaying herd values? (Why I'm not working for local the #1 manufacturer )Thin the herd? We have 4 cars and 8 bicycles and tricycles. |
