Missing my Metro ...; I can't drive it for awhile

Last Tuesday I was getting the trash ready for pickup. I had a long (3' or so) piece of flimsy trim material that I wanted to shorten to put in the garbage can, so I set one end on a block and the other on the ground. I came down on it with my right foot and it snapped in two, but at the moment of impact, my right knee exploded :x :x in massive, blinding pain!! Took about 5 minutes to hop back to the house, and then we spent several hours in the ER. A couple of doctors later, the diagnosis is that I tore my inner meniscus in the joint. If it doesn't get better in a couple of weeks, then we'll do the MRI thing.

Anyway, I can't drive the Metro for awhile. With no cruise, constantly moving from gas to brake in town and the vibrations coming through it from the road, there's no way my knee could survive the 30 mile drive to work. So I'm "stuck" driving the Magnum for the next few weeks at least. I miss my Geo! :( :( (Good thing I love my Dodge!! :) :) :) )

I tore one of them back in 81. Slipped in a puddle of oil carrying a transmission. went down on my knee. Had surgery and all is better.

I did something similar about 5 years ago. I spent a summer kicking a shovel digging up tree roots in my yard. This caused the initial damage. Later that Autumn I was cleaning base boards and twisted enough to create the pop you described. Oh Joy! the pain. My meniscus tore and folded up under my knee cap so I could not straighten my leg. Emergency room, Specialist, MRI, Surgery. They wanted to remove the meniscus but I said no so they did a repair and reattach which seemed to work. Longer recovery than a simple removal but it was worth it.
Now it is all better and my other knee wants some medical attention.

Getting old sucks!

Naahhh!! I drove one of those when they first came out, and decided right then that it was entirely too much fun! (Also didn't much care for the "17" the mpg computer was displaying at economy cruise! :( :( ) The 3.5 HO V6 is plenty for what I do with it. 250 HP (+ 11.68 from the cold air intake system, according to the K&N website :) )

The aging process blows. Its way over rated. When we were young we would wish we were older. Now that we are there, we wish we were young again.

The only way I'd go for that deal would be if I could have the body I had at 30 with what I know now, but it'd be hard interviewing for a job and talking about having 30 years of experience in the auto industry!

Sorry to hear about your knee perfesser. :shake

The 411 suggests getting nutrients to the area for healing. Alternating hot and cold packs or hot/cold water in a shower might help, 10-15 minutes, end with the hot. Just an FYI, In cycling we learned that high rpm, low resistance (easy gears) would increase blood flow, plus tendons and ligaments strengthen slower than muscle. But that is down the road, the hot/cold can be applied after 24 hours.

Take care. Will pray for you.

Get that fixed ASAP. The longer you delay, the more of the meniscus that becomes compromised and the less mileage you will have left in it. The repair consists of snipping off the loose piece of cartilage; so the more that you delay, the more that gets torn and ultimately lost to the repair. :x My wife delayed getting hers done and she just went through total knee replacement because of it after enduring several years of reduced, painful function. I injured mine a few months after her and got mine done right away. 7 years later I am still truckin' with no pain. Get 'er done.... :thumb
