I really don't think I care for being "edited" when I was really the one being attacked for casually mentioning how only our Maker knows when our number is up. All this after I've seen time after time others using vulgar, offensive language and personal attacks. That's not cool. I said it before- I'm a big boy and can take plenty of trash talking without being offended, but this is pretty ridiculous. Being singled out doesn't feel very good. I thought this forum was above such. |

Use another forum if you have a problem with it. Keep God (Allah, Zeus, Yahweh, etc.) out of this one. |

http://geometroforum.com/boardrules/ Religion is not even mentioned in the Forum Rules. Politics are specifically addressed. ![]() Have a nice day, and enjoy your bacon. Kale is that shit they put on the side of the plate to enhance the presentation or something. I didn't think anyone ate kale. The original post link is clearly politically oriented. Why the hell didn't this thread get locked down 4 days ago? |

You've been here long enough to know that the religious threads/posts get locked down. |

Right. When they become "heated arguments", which is specifically addressed in the Forum Rules. That's not my point. Editing posts because of religious statements is. And not that I particularly give a shit about this thread, but more than one forum member has complained about edited or deleted posts in recent history. |

The Genius Who Descended Into the Metro

I'm not used to there being taboo subjects on forums since the last ones I frequented for nearly 15 years let us talk about any subject so long as it took place in the subforum that was designated for it. Debating subjects like politics and religion caused me to analyze perspectives and viewpoints that I hadn't considered before, taught me critical thinking skills, challenged me to question my previously held assumptions about things, and led to me to reforming my views over time in light of attaining broader perspective. That personal development wouldn't have happened if we were censored. We still had to maintain some degree of civility and there was moderation, but at least the discussion was permitted to take place. I really dislike having my posts deleted since I usually invest a bit of time in creating them (most my posts are edited as I re-word/add new content after further reviewing them) and that's time I'll never get back. Also I like to see what the responses are. Most forums figure at some point that trying to stop discussions of these topics is like playing whack-a-mole, so rather than ban it, they accept the fact that it's going to happen and keep an eye on it. Kind of like what's going on now in several states with weed . They know it's going to happen, so they enact realistic policies to deal with it.

After looking at this thread a few times to try to gain some perspective, I appreciate the criticisms of my faith, however casually I may have referred to it. It means I must be doing something right. Regardless of how this forum ends up, my faith will remain undeterred. I can understand why moderators would want to try to avoid in-depth discussions on politics and religion, as things can tend to get out of hand quickly. Just an off-handed mention of a higher power while talking about something completely different didn't fall into that realm in my opinion. Our great nation was founded on the concept of freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion, contrary to what some may think. In all my postings here I have tried to be as respectful as I can to others' opinions. I'm no angel, and enjoy a good argument as much as most. I can give and take with the best of them. It's new to me to have faith good enough to be ridiculed for, and instead of being ticked over it, I'm kind of humbled over it. Thanks to the moderators as well as the "offended" parties that can't seem to be able to even stomach a casual mention of a higher power. You've made my day. |

The problem is the 'casual' posts end up being followed by posts like this one. They become posts that become less and less casual and more "my God is better than your god" posts. Edited by Coche Blanco, Aug 31 2014, 08:23 PM.

As the OP I have been amazed at the places this thread has been. I meant it as a light-hearted bacon post more than a political one. The lack of civility, personal defensiveness and combative nature of some of the responses have been most disappointing.

Where can I get some non-expensive pork bellies. I want to try my hand at slicing a belly to get exactly the thickness I want. Have you seen the price of bacon lately? Yikes. |

Politics and reigion are all topics for heated debate. Heated debates do not make a friendly forum. Board rules will now be updated to wipe out religious discussions. |
