Can someone explain...

Can someone explain these holes in the block that go all the way through down to the crank (bottom of the picture)? The head gasket doesn't cover them completely, wouldn't oil get shot up through there? What's the point?

Those are drain back holes for oil coming from the head.

The long slots at the opposite side of the block are actually the drain back points. They are lower when the engine is installed. The round holes are meant to allow the blowby gasses from the sump to make their way up to the valve cover and then through the pcv system back into the combustion chamber to burn off the vapor. If there was no outlet from the crank area to the valve cover to relieve pressure then it would keep building till it blew out the front or rear crankshaft seal.

The round holes around the cylinders is for "lemonade" or red colored coolant.

Funny you mention that, I found this "thing" on the floor after disassembling the motor and had no idea what it was. After extensive research on here, I found out what it was. I haven't let it out of my sight since. ^o)

Mysteries of the G10... How do it know what color the coolant is?

And where would a different colored coolant go, and how would it cool the cylinders if it can't go in the water jacket? :hmm

Hep what? I wasn't wondering about the circulation pattern, I was curious how the engine actually knew the difference between different color coolants because someone mentioned that "those holes" are for particular "colors" of coolant and I thought... Nevermind! :D
