Still new, but learning...

And so the real work begins..
The compression test details ended up in a different thread. In summary:
DogSprint: 57, 35 and ... 20ish?
AutoSprint: 150, 60 and 40ish
The blue one I don't own but looked at: First test 110/115/105, redid it today with all the things on the list (hot engine, fuel disengaged, WOT, ..) and got 145, 165, 155. Interesting that the centre one is still the highest. I wanted to do a wet test, but the engine oil was forgotten, so ...

Anyway, today we began the disassembly of the DogSprint (Std Trans, frame so rusty it is hardly safe to jack up, clutch blew up).

Anyone know how I can embed this? Thought I could use the flash bb code, but it won't work. I'll embed them one at a time manually if its helpful.

Ok, here are the embedded photos with comments, since I can't find a way to do it from the album:

Posted Image

Milky oil that came out of the hose on top of the engine, hose visible

Posted Image

Engine as it is now, spark plugs have been loosened.

Posted Image

Electrical bits are being pulled out.

Posted Image

Screws that I already can't remember what I pulled them out of. Interior stuff?

Posted Image

Pile of parts

Posted Image

Starter

Posted Image
Gauge cluster bezel

Posted Image
Behind the dash...

Posted Image
Heater-y bits?

Posted Image
Fuse box etc

Posted Image
Dark pic of under the dash

Posted Image
Small parts on the floor

Posted Image
More small bits

Posted Image
Where the gearshift came out

Posted Image
The clutch pedal mounting steel thing.

Posted Image
Gauge cluster

Posted Image
Clutch pedal mount from further away

Posted Image
This little steel bit mounts to the floor over the clutch pedal mount.. somewhere.

Posted Image
Dash..

Posted Image
So many wires..

Posted Image
These three things seem important.. The two smaller ones hook into the clutch pedal mount. The bigger one hooks into some wires under the dash. The auto doesn't seem to have an equivalent bit to this.

Posted Image
The lower wire bundle goes to those three important things above.

Posted Image
Engine bay things

Posted Image
Speedo cable, I think?

Posted Image
Wires ... Tach sensor?

Posted Image
Brake booster etc

Posted Image
I forget why I took this off...

Posted Image
half off..

Posted Image
Just realized these pics are all in reverse order.. this is from when we went "hmm, we better take some pictures"

Posted Image
Before we ripped stuff apart

Posted Image
Electrical connections, down from above over the transmission ish.

Just another wrench.

Where did the milky oil come from? That could mean a blown head gasket! If milky substance is inside of Radiator ot valve cover/ Oil cap that is a head gasket in most cases.

It was out of the PCV hose.

Wow you have been busy! Reminds me of my garage a few months ago when I had my donor car and vert stripped down. One thing I wish I had done , to make my life easier, was to better label hardware as it came off. I got little plastic zip top baggies and a sharpie marker to put nuts, bolts, small parts etc. and label them as they came off.
Don't forget to save me those climate control knobs!

The engine is going on this one anyway. It's gone already, but I did keep the nobs! Just need to find one more for ya!

So we scrapped the donor car (It's gone forever... sniff) and organized all the parts from it. Put the "to be used" car into the garage, and letting the snow melt off of it. Took the hood off, but didn't have time to do much other than get it in there to warm up.

Worst rust I've found so far:

This is on the bottom of the drivers door area, not the door but under that..

Frame horns look great... but are undercoated. I didn't realize that. Now I'm worried there might be internal rust that wouldn't show through the coat.. thoughts??

Start stabbing around with an ice pick. :gamerz If it pokes through, there's some welding to be done. ^o) I bet it will be solid though. :news Impressive work. :thumb Looking forward to seeing how everything turns out. :cheers

Remember the automatic engines crankshaft has a spacer pressed on to the crank shaft to make it longer, so needs tapped off to be utilized on a standard trans vehicle.

I am a little confused about the 91 Sprint. It has been my understanding that the Sprint was always called a pontiac Firefly in Canada. Then when It was Renamed Geo in 1989 It still was called a pontiac Firefly in Canada. Pontiac Firefly in Canada, 1985 thru 2002? They stopped producing Chevy Metro's in 1999 for sale to the general public in America but continued producing for car rental companys thru 2001. I belive Cami Canada possibly produced the Firefly in Canada till 2002. The turbo was available only two years on the Chevy sprint in America but was available in Canada thru 1992 on their Pontiac firefly. I would love to have a 92 turbo if only I could figgure out how to sneak one across the border. I saw one once in Twin Falls Idaho with Canada plates it was beautiful with its factory hood scoop, spoilers, and flared fenders. Looked like a totally tricked out Geo Metro then I noticed the Pontiac logo on it.

Internal frame spray after icepick inspection!!!! Hit it firmly! During the frame inspection your life depends on that frame being sound!
