Dang... sometimes I just shouldn't look things up online. Now I want a vintage Cushman Truckster!![]() They are street legal 3 wheeled, gasoline powered, 2 speed transmission vehicles with a small truck bed. Yes, with a tailgate that opens! Being 3 wheeled, they are classified like motorcycles. Some even have doors and windshield wipers. They are NOT meant for highway use and tend to have a top speed of 38mph on a level road.. I think? It probably depends on which engine it has. They seem to include 8, 18, and 22HP versions. The larger engines look to be two cylinder aircooled (18HP shown below): The 8HP is probably a single cylinder engine, like a low end riding mower. DANG that would be an AWESOME little truck for hauling stuff in. I would assume they get 60MPG or better too. Seeing as how my push mower has a 7hp engine... I would say that the 8hp engine would be for <10mph or so adventures. Neat little 'trucks'. My school has one. I saw it and laughed at "Cushman" on the back. lol |

This ad claims their non-enclosed cab 1962 Cushman with an 8HP engine and 3 speed transmission goes 35-45mph: http://www.bike4sale.co/detail/oVPVVeeueoFoAmuFumPP/1962-Cushman-Truckster But then again, some Metro CL ads for 3/3's claim 50mpg... so who knows. |

The 3 speed, and smaller windscreen might make it possible to do ~40... either way, I would think they would be pretty scary at anything over 20mph. haha |

I'm sure some people would say that about the Metro too. Or a Honda Spree anyway, which I once owned. Both of these are 50cc (left is 4 cycle, right is 2 cycle) and do about the same top speed of 30mph.
