On the '95-up cars, you don't need to drill it out.

The plate is pop riveted on, and there are four neat little tabs on the backside of the rivets. Straighten those little tabs out, pull the VIN plate off with the rivets, transfer it to you new dash, and then flatten out the tabs again.

Done right it will look completely original.

It is not necessary to remove the "bazooka bar" on the '95-up cars.

Check this out.

If you know exactly what needs to be removed and exactly what doesn't, it is the easiest dash you will ever replace.

YOU GUYS ARE LIARS!!!!!!!!!

My dash removal aftermath does not look anything like that. Good Lord what an experience.

I did the Mullet route and still had a couple of problems. Called Stiffcheeze and still had problems. Only took me five hours to pull it out.

How about the hidden screw behing the passenger air bak which is connected to the bazooka tube?

Who about the fact the A/C tubes are connected to the bazooka tube with screws which can only be unscrewed using a double jointed wrist? Just a real pain.

I will give props to Stiffcheeze because he took the time to explain some of the finer points in removing the bazooka tube. I really didn't like that option because it required unfastening the wiring loom from the bazooka tube. I will be waiting for his write-up.

I will say this: I had an easier time changing out the timing belt on my '05 honda Odyssey than removing the dash from my metro.

I am not a happy camper right now. Take what I spew with a grain of salt. It's just frustration bubbling to the surface. :banghead

If you took out the bazooka tube, that was your mistake. It does not need to come out...at all.

Why were you removing it? "Dash cancer"? Replacing the heater core?

I never said anything about it being fun, entertaining or anything. I just threw you the bone you asked for and posted the links. :deal

I did the heater core in my Wife's Geo twice. Took the seats out. I only removed and disconnect what I need to pull the dash out far enough to get the heater core out. I just dropped the steering column, not remove the wheel. Supported the dash with a jack stand. I get claustrophobic under the dash. :scared

Oh, hell no, I'm a lazy :shit . I took 3 nights to do the heater core last time, one to get it out, one to fix and one to get it in. The first time was closer to a week even with a better garage.

This is how I cure dash cancer....

I will back track on my comment about "YOU GUYS ARE LIARS".

I am sorry.

I was very frustrated at the moment I typed those words. Of course in the real world every member on GMF are upstanding citizens who wouldn't harm anybody or thing. I was simply trying to add levity to my agonizing situation, but I should have put a smiley face after the comment.

No, you guys are not liars. I am sorry. It was a long, hot, miserable day yesterday and my attitude was discolored by frustration.

It really isn't as difficult as folks here make it look. Removing the steering column (5 bolts) instead of scattering it would be a good start... Then you can get to the last bolt on the rebar and the whole mess comes right out. No chisel required.
