Hi all, I'm trying to find a supplier for a muffler for a 1995 3-cyl, 5 speed, hatchback. After searching here and there, all I can find in a new one is a Walker. But, it is not a direct match! The pipe does not line up and the hanger brackets are not right. I got something from the junk yard, but it is on its last leg. Local shops want way too much $ in my opinion. I don't want to pay more than double the cost of the car at $600 +. I have not tried a stealership, but I suspect their price - if they even had one - would make the local shops seem like a bargan. Any suggestions? Thanks |

I bought a Walker muffler for my 96 3 cylinder 5 speed and it was a direct fit. http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/walker-quiet-flow-ss-stainless-steel-direct-fit-muffler-21197/18290972-P? |

Hmmm. That looks like the one I saw the pipe. The pipe was not offset like the orginal, but centered. There is not much wiggle room when mounted, so I was leery about welding on it and thus commiting to buying it. The hooks did not line up with the originals'. Did you all have the same situation? |

I replaced my entire exhaust because of the jingling noise in the catalytic converter and intermediate pipe. I also found that my muffler was filled with rust. The entire exhaust hangs on rubber hangers except for the exhaust manifold. You should be able to make it work. At the very worst, you might have to loosen the converter pipe at the manifold to allow the exhaust to swing to the side. If you do this, install a new doughnut gasket at the bottom of the exhaust manifold. You don't need to weld the muffler on, just buy some stainless steel clamps or paint some new clamps from an auto supply company. |

Installs with no welding required. Here is a list I posted awhile back:
The only part I didn't need was the cat. Everything else installed for me with no issues.

My cat and forward was OK. All behind the cat was replaced by a small muffler shop that had been operating for over 50 years. Took the guy 45 minutes. Bent the pipe and installed a generic muffler he had in stock. Charged me $100.00. He told me the parts and labor was free but he charged me the hundred bucks for 45 minutes of heat, soft couch, quiet waiting room and TV usage while I waited.

100 bucks ouch! He must not have understood he was working on a metro and the car is not worth much more than that. |

They are High Dollar and Hard to find. I get mine at a discount exhaust shop called Quality Exhaust here in WV. They last about 2 years unless you drill a little hole for a water drain (It's humid here). They run about $20.00 plus install. You can also get a pipe spreader at most parts stores and a cheap small muffler and make it fit. If none of this appeals to you try Ebay Motors they probably have one....Good Luck! Boeingtrijet |

The Walker quiet muffler already has a hole drilled in the muffler at the bottom of the inlet side. Edited by 96Geoman, Sep 6 2014, 06:44 AM.

Thanks for all the feed back! I got an exhaust from the junk yard , but the info supplied here will come in handy when I do it right. I do have an exhaust leak that sounds like it's around the doughnut gasket. I guess the gasket was frozen in position for the old pipe even though the new an old look the same?

FYI I replaced mine with one from a junkyard once. I got one year out of it.

Stiffchezze I tried searching for your Jun 30 2013, 11:32 AM post here and used different search terms but nothing turned up for your original post. Never having done this particular job myself, I'm going to have to do it in a month or so, so I have a little time to prepare. My Geo is a 92 1.0, 5spd. manual. Are there any particular differences between the 92 and the vehicle you used these parts to replace? Thank you for your list. It's very helpful because I can't afford any welding or other fees involved in replacing this system.
