So I am in the process of 'designing' my new desk. The height is pretty much predetermined. However, the rest of it is up in the air. I know I want the top of the desk to be 4' wide and between 24" and 30" deep. I'm looking for ideas as far as draws, shelves, the legs in general, possibly a curved recessed area to sit in, etc. The desk does butt up to our bed, so it will double as a night stand. I'll get going on paint and hammer out some rough drafts myself. Plan on getting it cut and assembled tonight. Possibly paint. Paint for sure by tomorrow and in use Saturday. |

I used a counter top that you would find in a kitchen and attached some folding legs like you would find on a plastic folding table. It was a brand new 8 foot desk for under $100 and there was not finishing work or anything else needed. Seems like you want something a little more complicated though. |

I have wood for the top already, not that I want to 'complicate' things haha. I just know I want it to fit better than something I could buy premade. That's all. I have been brain storming. I'll be sure to post here when it's all done! |

'butt up' ??? back of desk to side of bed? end of deck to side of bed?? I would make sure that one drawer would be towards the bed and the bottom of the drawer was higher than the top of the bed. The reason for this is access to a drawer while you are in bed. Can be quite handy for such things as a revolver or intimate items----but the drawer MUST be able to be of use when you are in bed. |

Very important to keep the intimate items handy. |

I wouldn't even go with real drawers, I would do cubby holes with those baskets from some super box store, or even some colored plastic bins that have no top. Then the desk cubby a could be made to fit these "bins" and look stylish. Just an idea |

This is something I thought about myself too! It would be cheaper and faster, plus leave the option for real drawers later. grabbing coffee and then rendering quick sketch in paint. ![]() Alright, as you can see, the room is pretty compact. But that is fine. We only sleep in here. The desk fills from the edge (or a couple inches from) the bed to the wall. The drawers or cubbies will be next to the bed to act as a 'night stand'. The remainder of the desk will be for my laptop and computer accessories. I will no longer need to do any 'work' on this desk since I have one in the garage now! Alright, quickie on the sketch. ![]() So the night stand with cubbies is next to the bed. The table top portion stretches to the wall. There is probably going to be a backing to it to hide all the wires. I put a little half shelf on the right side, pending left over wood. But ideas/improvements are welcome. Not having both sides of the bed exposed is annoying. At least to me it is. |

![]() Not really able to argue with that. But that is how we have had our bed for the past 2 years. I actually like to have a wall behind me. I put pillows there and press up against it to apply pressure to my back when it is sore. On the flip side, being able to get out of bed more easily would be nice. I do scoot to the end of the bed. But that is once a day and something I can live with. -EDIT I assumed it was annoying to you because you don't want to have to crawl to the end of the bed, correct?- Our bed room is quite plain. We use the living room for all entertainment purposes. The bed room is literally for sleeping and, after this, my computer. We have a PC in the living room, so this one is mainly for me to play games with my friends. Any sort of video watching is done in the living room, same with movies.
