Shouldn't be hard for anyone to figure out why I go by "perfesser". The name was given me by a guy I worked with at Deere. I had been a professor at Purdue for a few years, and (some of you may have noticed) I like to explain things in considerable detail. He corrupted the spelling as a way of helping me not take the title too seriously. That's why I keep it. Being a professor is what I do, not who I am. And with my background, I am about the most non-traditional professor you may ever encounter!! The avatar pic is not so obvious. One morning many years ago, when dinosaurs still roamed the earth, my father was driving his 1928 Essex like a mad man through morning traffic while my mother screamed "faster, faster!!" He got to the hospital, they wheeled Mom in while he parked the car, and when he walked in, they told him "congratulations, it's a boy!" I missed being born in this car by about 3-4 minutes. I think this is why I was fated to work in the automotive industry. It is my destiny! |

My handle is my name (in the real world) so I just use that as most of my stuff. My avatar picture is a pic of Bill Hicks, a comedian in the late 80s-early 90s who fought for truth and freedom. He died of stomach cancer in 1993. I don't recommend watching his comedy if you are easily offended as it can be quite extreme at times. A couple of my past avatars have been Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski and Agent Dale Cooper (from the old TV show Twin Peaks). So yeah, not much to it. |

I'm a software engineer and we are all about efficiency. First letter of first name appended to last name, makes for a easy to remember username for logins that is almost never already taken by some other site user (unless your last name is Johnson...). On most boards and forums I get to define a separate display name from the username I log in with but on this forum I don't see that setting (haven't looked real hard though). For the avatar picture I generally just go with a picture of myself as a benefit to others, most everyone likes to be able to put a face with a name and I suppose more-so when the name is something odd like "arudlang" since apparently I can't alter the display name. I also think there is a small amount of psychology involved with putting your face out there behind your posts, my hope being that it would subconsciously remind people that there is a real person on the other end of the internet and that may positively impact how they interpret what I write and how they reply to me. If you want to go a bit deeper yet, I think its safe to say I also consider my words a little more carefully as well when posting because I know my picture goes out with the words. The overall goal is simply to be genuine. |

Mine is simple- we jokingly called the car an econ o box. 'except, that I can't seem to spell right in the middle of the night when I registered. and why have one x when you can have more? (again, middle of the night, but no excuses- just change it o moderator, to econoboxer, thanks) the avatar helps people to see who I am. In the past I have used other images, but those just don't stay with me. People can see who I am- and that I am a real person. My thought is, its easier to treat others kindly, if they can see I am a person, and not a personality. My most recent pic was at my kids' military graduation. Big Rhino In a movie made here in my city called (The rainmaker), Mickey Rourke plays a corrupt lawyer who the FBI gets after and is searching for. Someone tries to get in contact with him via a phone call using his allias name for him which is Big Rhino. I just liked the movie and the scene. The avatar stands for itself. |

My name here comes from my neighbor kids. When they were younger they called me Mr. Murf. The GMF was my first online forum I belong to. So when it asked me for my online name, I had a deer in the headlights moment. And the only thing that I could think of as Mr Murf. I did not like the idea of a 10 year old calling me by my first name. When I was really young, kids were not allowed to call adults by their first names, it was always Mr. or Mrs. On my Avatar, its there because Johnny Mullet put is there.

The Genius Who Descended Into the Metro
![]()
|
Mine is from my favorite anime - "Mahjong Legend Akagi Shigeru: The Genius Who Descended Into the Darkness". It's a very cerebral series based around the main character gambling his way to the top of the Mahjong underworld in post-WW2 era Japan. His enigmatic prowess for reading his opponent & genius talent often turning the tide of certain defeat into victory. Akagi is a cold, relentless character. He cares little for money or for his own life. In the heat of the gamble he stops at nothing less than completely crushing his opponent's will to win. When gambling, the game completely changes when one has something to risk. When there is nothing to bet, good use of awareness and concentration wins the game. But when there is something significant at stake, those qualities alone are not enough to win it. No matter how much you can read into your opponent's hand, it is worthless if you cannot trust your own judgement. If you do not have the ability to entrust your destiny to that judgment, it is meaningless. In other words, the will to trust yourself. The strength of your soul comes into question. Impractical actions seem foolish at first, but they are necessary to deceive others. Impractical actions cause people to second-guess themselves. How can one deceive another without putting oneself at risk? That spirit will elicit suspicion from the others. Suspicion creates delusion, and delusion gives birth to fear. To claim that lies are the truth, one must be willing to bleed themselves without hesitation. With these tactics, your bluff can control the whole opposition. And when one controls the atmosphere, lies become truth. Only those who can augment their own image can attain victory. Edited by Akagi, Sep 4 2014, 04:56 PM.

Good topic.....I am curious about some of them myself. As for my handle it goes back about 30 years. My name is Ron. As for the dawg part my best friend dubbed me that when he walked in unexpectedly as his sister and I were going at it on the sofa. The name stuck! The photo is what my car looked like when I pulled it out of the woods last fall from where it had been resting since 1998. |

Did you write that yourself? The way the show is explained actually makes me want to watch it and I don't think I've ever seen a Japanimation show in my life, lol. That sounds pretty damn cool

My name is ZXT-jato the first all caps part came from an old N-64 game a friend and I used to play and the game would only have 3 charecters, so I couldn't think of any name so randomly mashed the button and ZXT it was. Now since then I've needed to modify that because log ins need more than 3, so since the traxxas "jato" was my first nitro RC car I tacked on the jato, this user name had been with me for many many years. |
