as most of you already know, I am not a computer guy. recently I lost my wood splitter to an accident. the insurance company needed a price quote, to issue a check for a new one. I decided on one from New River Firewood, in Lansing, West Virginia. they gave me a price quote, one week later, I had the insurance check in my hand, for that amount. NRF would not honor the quote, and jacked the price $700. if they would have told me the higher price, I would have received that much from the insurance company. BUT, the check was issued, and printed on the check is the claim number and "final settlement". the insurance company was great to work with, even paying for hydro fluid and oil! further, the product reviews are counterfeit!! all 12 of them are 5 star, and mine does not appear, (one star, with bad ethics review). they also represent the product as "made in the USA".....NOT !!! well, the components are made in CHINA, it may be assembled here. so my question is this; where can I go to post poor reviews? to make it hurt? tried a couple, and at the end, they want $$ to submit, yea, at the end. if they were legit, they would put that up front, more ethic free business. |

Thanks Fixer, but the ins co was great. no problem from them, they took my quote and cut a check for that amount. it was NRF that upped the price, one week to the day, after they made the quote. they were supposed to hold a unit until I had the check in hand. I wanted to have the check before making the order. NRF knew it was an ins settlement, and knew what the check would be. I have no argument with the ins co, as they did exactly as they agreed to do. believe it or not. I was even offered price of parts and labor to repair it myself, or just buy new. |

That seems like a high price for a good wood splitter. I just googled around looking at splitters and I couldn't even FIND one that cost much more than two thousand dollars. Could you order one online that was as good as the one you had? |

http://www.ago.wv.gov/consumerprotection/Pages/default.aspx The attorney general is a good guy, give his office a call and see what they think of that company. Online reviews are mostly worthless for small companies but if they are doing unethical stuff call the WV consumer hotline and they prob won't be around much longer. |

This is a very ignorant statement. Small businesses rely on word of mouth. If they get positive reviews the company will get more business. Too many negative reviews can shut a small business down. |

the one that I had was 18 hp (briggs commercial w/ cast sleve) electric start, 7 sec cycle time, 50 ton. the one I thought I found was 15 hp, elec start (lifan china engine) 45T, 12-14 cycle. it was close, but acceptable. none the less, I was promised a unit at a set price. 7 days later, including the 3 day holiday, I am told; "we will not honor that price quote". that was online. I prefer to buy local, but can not even get the repair parts local. |

yes, the ins gave me parts plus $500 for labor, or buy new. figured I would save myself the time and headache and buy new, with warranty. just really peeved the folks at NRF actually said; "we will no longer honor the quote". this just 7 days later, and the 3 day holiday included.
