So a pleasant surprise came my way today and I thought I would share it with ya'll. I have a coffee distributor on my route and I had a couple of packages to deliver to that company. I rang the door bell and the owner came and answered. I was surprised because usually he doesn't answer the door. We got to talking about his business and he said he sold his coffees to small retail outlets in the area. I figured he sold mainly to Walmart, but heck, what do I know. He offered to give me a couple of pounds of coffee and I jumped at the offer. Off we go into the office. Past the desk and into another room which reminded me of a coffee shop. But he continued past the coffee bar and into the warehouse. I walked into it and was stunned, absolutely stunned by the amount of green coffee beans in sacks were in the warehouse. Dozens of pallets with waist high 50# bags of beans on them. Wow!! So he asked me what kind of beans I would like and I asked if he had any Kenya beans. He said not at this time but he did offer up some Ethopian Yirgacheffe. I said OK. Free coffee is free coffee. He filled up a two pound bag and gave it to me. I was very appreciative and thought that if Mrs.Dayle1960 likes the beans I'll be purchasing some from him. Called the wife and told her I had a surprise for her when I got home. She was pleasantly surprised when I showed her the bag of beans. So after she went to work I told my son to help me roast the beans. After twenty minutes in an iron skillet the beans were done. We compared the ground beans my wife usually drinks to what I ground tonight and My son and I thought the Ethopian beans were a little less potent smelling. Oh well, I ain't going to complain. I am thankful that the owner gave me a couple of pounds. We'll see how Mrs.Dayle1960 likes the new coffee in the morning. Have any of you guys ever roasted and ground green beans? |

That cheep sucker, he should have gave you some already roasted, by aprofesional. Skillet roasing just isnt the same thing. My brother works for a roaster in Modesto. I help him with coffee machine repair and he keeps me in fresh coffee. |

I hear ya, BUT, when I went into the ware house he was just dumping some freshly ground beans into a cooling bin. What I wanted was green beans. I am sure he would have given roasted beans but I would have had to use them in a fairly short amount of time and they might go rancid. So I opted for the green beans with the intention of roasting them when the need arises. |

Not a clue how any of this works. I just show up, there is a pot of ground coffee, and I put it in the machine. I don't even know how that pot stays full all the time. "Magic" |

There is nothing better than a cup of java made from freshly roasted and ground beans. I was stationed at Malmstrom AFB, MT (Great Falls) I helped out a friend of mine roast coffee who still owns Morning Light Coffee Roasters. No such place exists here in this cultural black hole. The closest thing we have is Starbucks. I sure miss Morning Light. Another friend I used to fly with decided to get out and open his own coffee business in Lubbock, TX. His business is Daybreak Coffee which is now a distributor to several supermarket chains in the area. |
