First monitored tank of gas: 31.7 mpg; ..in an automatic

After 194 miles, I went and filled up today since I came across an Arco with gas at $3.579. It took 6.12 gallons to click off automatically. I didn't top off any and I had the nozzle pushed down in properly despite that accordion vapor control thing it had.

That comes out to 31.7 mpg according to Fuelly. Now that I have something to show for Fuelly, I'll added it to my signature.

31.7mpg, mostly city driving, is pretty dang good considering my fairly heavy foot takeoffs in an automatic.

Nice. So you can go 275 miles next time and have almost 2 gallons or 60 miles left in the tank. I get a little panicky when my gas gauge gets below the red line, regardless of what I know I'm getting for FE. :scared

Maybe two more months before we get "winter blend" gas and loose 5 or more mpg. :rasp

I wasn't sure what MPG I was getting and the gauge wanders around so much. I knew it was roughly 200 miles so I figured I had a least 2.5 gallons left. assuming a low MPG of 28. It was lingering around 1/4 of a tank so I figured 2.5 was a good thin-air guess for a 10 gallon tank. Turned out to be around 4 left.

Since I was across town by a cheap gas station, I figured I'd fill up. Other station I passed were a good 20 cents or more higher. It was under $22 for the fill up. :D

There is a gas station right nearby me that sells pure gas (no ethanol). I might have to try that... if it's not more than 10% higher than cheaper gas. If I have to pay 50 cents more per gallon, it won't be cost effective to get a few mpg higher.

MY BROTHER! These autos ain't so bad.

Well, they are, but it's not the worst thing I've ever driven. They really start to shine on the highway. Or look worse, depends on which side you are coming from. I managed 40~ MPG on the auto while cruising the highway between 55-65 MPH. Just make sure to keep your tires inflated. Jeez, I had one get a piece of mulch stuck in the stem (no idea where the cap went) dropped to 10 PSI and I didn't notice until I filled up. Mid to low 20's on that tank :(

Increased coefficient of rolling resistance is such a drag. ;)

What percent highway vs city?

Also it's pretty hilly around here so there's a lot of speed up and slow down, even on the highway.

And too, my engine has almost 197k miles and may be original. I don't know. :lol

I'm happy with ~32 combined MPG. I guessed 70% city/30% highway but that be off some.. I didn't keep track of highway vs city miles, so it might be more like 80% city, 20% highway.

I do far more city driving generally which is why I wanted a Metro vs a Corolla/Prizm. 5-7mpg city better adds up. ^o)

Since the car seems to be pretty stable, aside from that oil pressure scare which seems to have been merely a low idle condition one morning out of 300+ miles over a month, I am thinking about taking a road trip this coming Spring in it back out to Arkansas to get my other stuff stored out there.. except the trailer and scooter which will stay out there, put up for sale.

Although, I still wish I could bring the scooter back behind the Metro somehow. :hmm But, it'd be dangerously close the car's weight capacity. :shake

I might leave it out there, take a bus back out there, ride it back out here with minimal camping gear. :lol

Mine gets 30-32 City. I drive about 10 minutes each way to work and that's all. Rarely do I get to do long highway trips.

My commute is probably 40% hwy (back roads) and 60% city (stuck in rush hour traffic).
Give it an oil change and tune up about a month ago. It has 97,000 miles on it.

My wife is driving the '99 metro 4 cyl / auto and she's getting 36 - 37 mpg all back road commute.
The '99 has 213,000 miles on it.
