Hi ALL! :thumb

Just picked up a little red 96 Geo Metro with 51k miles. Sooooo it sat awhile and has some issues. Bleached dash because of the sun. Headliner sag. Fuel gauge not accurate. AC and Heat not working. No radio (least of issues).

So I joined here to get some knowledge dropped on me. :bacondance

Looks pretty straight. Welcome.

Bleached dash is a problem with that year. AC and heat not working, search for fixes on those. Fuel gauges are a problem on these cars as well. I really enjoy my geos. Hope you will too.

Welcome to the forum. Looks like it was towed a bit.
Yea the people before me used it as their tow toy, pulling it behind their RV so they could drive it when they hooked up somewhere.

Welcome to your new forum, 8isenough! :coffee

Congrats on your new toy! :banana

Well, let's see... everyone has Fuel gauge issues. :lol Mine never hits full unless I top off FULLY and the red line is 7-7.5 gallons.

Headliner Removal Guide But we have a lot of headliner threads and Google Advance Search is a good way to find anything: https://www.google.com/search=headliner site search=geometroforum

Regarding the dash, we use carpet from eBay: Sample eBay seller at $48. BUT punkozuna posted Anybody try this on Dash Cancer? Hint: heat gun.

You AC may need charging, eh. Bot Ac and heat and you might remove the dash to repair or paint it and pull the heater core and see if the flaps work and make sure the 'environmental' controls are connected and working properly. There goes the weekend. :banghead :lol

You will also want a pair of these green books: eBay search: 1996 Geo Metro manual shop and I sometimes compare the results with eBay search: 1996 Geo Metro manual service

Live with the wonky fuel gauge. I've been on GMF for years and NEVER EVER have I read about a permanent fix for a bad fuel gauge. I've just learned how to read it. Just remember if your metro is functioning in a normal fashion, then it should easily get 40 mpgs. That means at around the 400 mile mark, no matter what the gauge is telling you, it is time to stop into a gas station. Until you learn the quirkiness of that fuel gauge, just don't go too many miles over four hundred before filling up.

All standard problems, welcome to the club.

A/C and heat might just be the fan switch, they're famous for coming apart and puking their guts onto the floor behind the console. If you catch it before the innards come out, a wire tie will fix it forever.
