Exhaust Difference Auto vs Manual ?; MK 2 1.0L Direct Fit Replacement

I installed a complete new stock exhaust from manifold to bumper on the '92 some 35K miles ago. Receipt shows AP Exhaust bought from Rock Auto. (Rock now lists Walker and Bosal exhaust stuff as suppliers). The AP exhaust has come apart (rust) at several points mainly the first flange after the CAT where the bolt-together is (pipe separated from the flange) and the entrance to the muffler. I figured it'd last longer than that but what do I know? We have winter in central Bluegrass but around here they're stingy with the road chemicals and the most you see is a striped coating on the road when a decent snowfall is expected.

Looking at exhaust components this morning, I see that beginning Sep 01 through Nov, Walker Exhaust (on the Mullet's good list), is giving a $50 Visa card for direct fit CAT converters. Rock's listing the Walker part # 55108 (non-California) for $112.89 and Walker's site says it's a stainless steel body with aluminized pipe. That'd be 62.89 plus the brown truck after the give back. I'll check local too and compare shipping/final cost but...

Is there a difference in the exhaust used on same model year autos vs manuals? I saw the question was asked back in 2013 but replies were directed at the difference between exhaust on 4 cyl vs 3 cyl. Rock's info list the # 55108 as fit for "standard transmission" but there is no separate listing for an auto. I'm betting no difference but I'm thrown off by overall lengths listed by different suppliers varying by as much as 2+ inches.

Momma wants stealth so I'll probably be keeping it stock rather than taking it down the road and putting it on a lift and letting Kustom Willie have at it.

The main differences between transmissions take place just past the crank. The exhaust wraps around the engine somewhere before then. There's enough room there that I doubt there would be a difference in exhausts.

I put a full Walker system on my '91 when I did the engine. I bought it from Amazon. Rock Auto's part prices were less, but Amazon's free shipping is awfully hard to resist, and what matters is the total cost to get the pipe from wherever to your front door.

Thanks, Perfesser. I saw that post you made about a Walker exhaust somewhere else. And now that you mention it, I'm a Prime member too...I should check Amazon. I forget many times that Amazon is a go to place for parts.

Edit: Nice review on the part over there :-) Looks like it's not an item that I can benefit from the free Prime shipping but I can still get the $50 rebate on the converter.

Edit again: Well, the resonator part IS a free Prime ship item...so there's that!

Wasn't aware of this: Warranty, Labor: Walker warrants qualifying exhaust products against defects and wear-out when used on private passenger cars and light trucks under normal operating conditions for as long as such original purchaser owns the vehicle on which they were originally installed.
