Long live the 4 doors...
:rocker I lucked out finding mine. I just wanted to find a good 5 spd Metro and this was the first one to pop up in my budget. I was hoping to find a 5 spd 4 door hatchback with a/c and that's what I found (even though the a/c doesn't work). I was hooked on 4 doors after my first one. Hoping to eventually give this thing a proper repaint at some point (flaking off a little and chips easily), but we'll see. I actually just started the process of learning to weld today, so hopefully I can fix my rusty chunk of floorboard over the winter.

Yours is looking good so far. Keep up the good work :thumb .

Also if you are willing to spend the money the radio bezel and center vent are listed on ebay right now.

My sister at least used to watch it so I recognized the pic as Futurama, but I had to look up the reference :lol

Got an early Christmas/birthday present from my parents yesterday...I'm spoiled :whistle

These will go in once I get the crappy wiring taken care of and my radio in. My dad said they splurged because I plan on keeping the car for as long as I can.
Do you have any idea how many of those I've destroyed in junkyards trying to get them out!?!?!?!!? :banghead

I've gotta get me some new vents, bad... Are your parents looking to adopt any new kids???
one thing to remove those is to cut off the top mounts of the vent with a hack saw blade in a pair of vice grips then carefully saw them off while its in the dash, remove the 2 lower screws when the upper mounts are delicately removed and you have an unbroken vent. "oh but will it stay with the top mounts cut?" yes it will stay just fine, 300K and its never had an issue for me.

Did you look at the rest of the stuff that guy has up for sale?? Of course you did... ^o) Spluge... He wants as much for the center vent as I just paid for a brand new hood :hmm
I'm doing a 2hr road trip tomorrow to a wrench it off yourself yard, if there isn't a good one there, I think I'm gonna get the new one... Cause after I paint this thing next week, that center vent will officially be the ugliest thing on the car...
Thanks for the links...

I actually drove 6 hours to get my 4dr, back in 2006 when they were red headed step children still... I only gave $700 for it... Then 3 days later drove it 18 hours down to FL and bounced around down there for a month and drove it back home... And the girl I took with packed every square inch full of stuff, poor car... Greatest $700 I've ever spent... Well actually I bought a wrecked one for $100 once, so who am I kidding... :D

Hmmm... I going hunting tomorrow and I was planning on pulling the whole dash to achieve success, but I just might try your method... Yep, it's supposed to be 88 tomorrow, I'll definitely try your way and save half my day too... Thanks...
Now you have me thinking take a bunch of demo blades and just sawzall the whole thing out... Nah, I'll try your way first...

88 HA must be nice, i have a thermometer in my car it was 140 in the car, today was 122 :bananaburn

i would even still cut a brand new one just for the ease of use personally. remember be delicate with the vent flower, take your time. stick the hack saw blade in there and cut the top bracket off the vents super careful you will know when you have cut all the way.

even with a brand new radio trim i would still take a nylon rope and super glue it around the void on the back side then fill the remainder of the void with epoxy just for that ultimate future proof durability. my radio trim has survived 300k ( along with the vents ) with epoxy filling the back side voids, better beef up while its straight than in a million shards of plastic.

I might do this my self or at least a little something to reinforce my new one. That's exactly how I'm using the one I have in now, but it's cracked in a few spots.

My exhaust started getting a very noisy over the last couple days so off it came...

Posted Image

The seam on top of the pipe was letting go.

Posted Image

Good exhaust off my old metro had some surface rust, so I wire wheeled it and sprayed it with high temp paint before putting it on. We'll see if it helps the exhaust hold up a little longer.

Posted Image

The car drives a lot better, better power at low rpms.

Also changed my route to work and drove a bit nicer and had my best "normal driving" tank yet at 45.6 mpg mostly city. Going to have to see how it does with the better bottom end power.

Well it's time to take care of the of the hacked up radio wiring and burned pin in the fuse box...6 months with no radio has sucked.

The before...

Crap wiring pulled out

Posted Image

Wondering if maybe this car had cruise control at some point, but not seeing any other signs that it had it.

Posted Image

Also noticed this little tube, anyone have an idea as to what it's for? It's on the driver's side and comes in through the fender. Never seen it before in any other metro we've had the dash out of.

Posted Image

This is where it sits as of right now. Have the good fuse box and chunk of harness in.

Posted Image

I have a cruise setup that my dad picked up a couple years ago off a 94 5 spd metro. Just have to figure out the wiring for it. Looks like it might be a dealer installed system. Here's the stalk.

That tube my friend looks like for a rear hatch sprayer. With it being a 4 door, I have seen out here in the pnp's the sprayer, wiper and rear defogger. I don't know if you looked under the left front fender on the wash bottle but if you see 2 washer motors. 1 is the front the other is for the rear sprayer.
Car is looking great :thumb

Also I just remembered that tube might be for a vacuum cruise control, after you mentioned you seen signs of a cruise control.

That's what I wondered and looked to see if I had 2 sprayers, but I don't, it looks like the right kind of tube for the sprayer though...my car doesn't even have rear defrost and the hatch was red just like the rest of the car, plus I don't have any wiring for the rear wiper/sprayer...just the defrost. I also noticed this plug for the first time. Had a nice cap on it too. Never noticed it on our 2 other 92 metros. I'll have to check and see if the wiring harness from one of them has it tomorrow.

that switch that you said you thought it was cruise controll, its not its the AC cut off so when you floor it the ac pump will turn off temporarly. some members have adjusted that switch to turn off a little sooner for a little better performance. lookin good man :)

that plug you said you never noticed before with the "nice cap" that is the plug where you put your paper clip in the terminals to adjust the timing.
