I have a change to buy a cheap 1995 or 96 geo metro and use it for parts for my 1990 Geo Metro 3 cylinder. I'm wondering mainly if the engine and tranny are the same in those different years? The guy said his 1995 or 96 was a 3 cylinder and that the transmission was a 5-speed. Can I use many of the parts? Thank you! Allan |

Is your existing Metro a 5-speed or an automatic? If the 95/6 has the same transmission it would be helpful, or you have an automatic currently and want to convert to a manual, this would be a great donor! Or maybe your '90 could become a donor. The biggest drivetrain difference is that '96 is OBDII, and '95 and down isn't. Other than that, most stuff should fit okay in either car. |

And you can use the late model brakes, 13" wheels and sway bars on your early car. |

The a arms are wider on the 95 and ups...and intake and emission controls are different, but the long block and the transmissions are interchangeable |

1990 has no EGR system, 1995 & 1996 do. Headlights and rear lenses are different. |

My '91 has EGR. So did the '94 engine I took out. No telling though if it's OEM or added on when they replaced the engine before I got it. |

I went and looked at the Geo yesterday. It's a green Canadian October 1993 Geo Metro 2-Door Hatchback model with the 3-cylinder engine. It has a 5 speed manual transmission and the car has only 88,000 miles on it. It has a dented right front section and no title. It's been sitting in a field for 4 years but the guy said that the engine and the transmission are good. He drove it up onto the trailer and drove it off in the field 4 years ago. I opened the glove box to see if a manual was there and it was but rats and mice have made a massive nest out of the insulation and it was packed in the glove box. BUT...everything is intact, I also didn't notice any broken windshield or windows, headliner looked ok, hatchback was clean. Also, the front bumper was off and laying in front of the car. I got it for $200 and pick it up Friday. I guess the best thing for me to do is to wait to find a cheap car like it that has engine or tranny trouble and then make a car out of the two. Thanks |

Good deal!! ![]() With a history of rodent infestation, expect to have to remove and clean every part of the heating/cooling system. Google "hanta virus". Also, it wouldn't be at all surprising if you have massive electrical problems, because those little critters love to snack on wiring harnesses. Also, pay real close attention to cleaning your upholstery. They've been peeing and crapping on it for the last 4 years. How's the rust on it? Lost titles can be replaced. I've done it several times. |
