Had a very productive and fun weekend thanks to Turbogts22 (Dean & Tim). They have been interested in my '57 Isetta 300 for some time and they decided to come and get it this weekend.![]() If you've ever been to the Minnesota Metro Meet (MMM) you'll know how pleasant and helpful these guys are. Well, while they were here they volunteered to help me with a bunch of stuff on my convertible; it needed:
![]() The buffer-meister at work. ![]() He even taught Marilyn how to run a buffer.... ![]() And a polisher. Look at that shine! ![]() Then I helped them to install the new top. The final results.... ![]() ![]() The paint buffed out amazingly well for how oxidized and dull it was. The top fits perfectly! In addition, Dean found a deteriorated vacuum hose that was completely blocked off, preventing any power assist to the brakes. Then he was able to track down the molested adjustments on the throttle body. The "Never-Touch-These" screws had been fiddled with by some clueless previous person (not me). We also tweaked the timing, and now she's finally starting, idling, and running as designed! Dean even took the time to show Marilyn how to heat up her bumper covers to restore the blackness and also buffed out her headlights. Tim & Dean have a wealth of knowledge on many subjects. Not only are they great with Geos, but among other accomplishments, they have renovated many houses from top to bottom and were able to give us some good advice on some things we want to do around our place. On top of that they have great senses of humor and are just plain nice guys. Thanks to them for a fun, productive weekend. We'll see you at the MMM!

A Late development. A few hours after Turbogts22 left for home I noticed this. ![]() It seems to start at a tiny pock mark up by the header and just appeared when I wasn't looking! I had the car out in the hot sun to let the new top get happy and I guess the temperature was enough stress to finally get something going at the pock mark. I will drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it while I find a replacement. Anybody have good (or Bad...) experiences with the glass replacement services? Sigh, three steps forward, one step back.... There was a lot going on at the River this weekend.

I'd love an Isetta! I doubt I could put it on the road here, legally. At best, it would be a lot of red tape...

Congrats! The TurboGTS team is the best! I love this one.......................... ![]() "Tim! Step away, from the car, or I'll zap you!" Bummer about the windshield.
OK, you can drill glass? Ice Blues windshield was done at a local specialty glass business. Not the "Jiffy Lube" (metaphor) guys. Cost was $300.00 which included top tint, all new seals, trim, perfect no distortion view, crystal clear, and no dripping adhesive. Very nice, quality job. Be careful with the $100 windshield installs.

I went to local technaglass- it was about 250- new seals, yada/yada- drill and glue will stop for awhile- but its gotta come out if crack is bigger than a dollar. Also, cracks near edges rarely hold a fix. Still, that car is a beautiful thing. Edited by econoboxer, May 23 2016, 11:18 AM.

The TurboGTS team rocks! It turns out that glass can be drilled in a variety of ways. I used a diamond bit on my Dremel and went a little bit at a time so as not to heat it up. You can also use a carbide-tipped drill bit and they even sell special glass drill bits.

So far, quotes up in this neck of the woods have ranged from $375 complete with new seals/molding to $242 with no molding. The molding on it right now is pretty toasted from the AZ sun. If I could source new molding myself, I'd go for the $242 which is with NOS PPG glass. Can anybody on the forum hook me up?

Speaking of toasted parts, most of the trim on No-Name needs replacing or a lot of attention. Some of it is just faded and some is down to bare metal.![]() I've decided to do the trim with the bedliner treatment that so many forum members have used. It looks good (to me..) and seems durable. I know that there are different degrees of texture with these products so I'm wondering what brands people have used and how much texture shows through? So far I'm just thinking of doing the trim, but I may take a hard look at my bumper covers also, as they were too far gone to respond to buffing/polishing. ![]() One more question; the spare tire cover was replaced with a piece of Masonite, so the paint code is gone. Automotivetouchup.com doesn't specifically list the 1993 Convertible, so the closest match they suggest is 81U, 9531, 9983, WA9531, WA9983 Bright Red. If there is a member with a red '93 AND an intact trunk floor, would you please send me the paint code? Also, are there any VIN number sites working today? Edited by davegran, Sep 7 2016, 04:38 PM.
