The antenna end that was left in the first stereo was not supposed to come off, it was supposed to remain attached to the end of the antenna wire. To fix it will require replacing the whole antenna which will mean you have to run the wire down from the roof to the stereo, or you have to solder a good antenna end to the end of the old one. |

Thank you very much, Metromightymouse. I've been reading a ton of old posts, and I think that's what's going on - the cigarette lighter itself is shorting, probably because when I took it out (and tried to take out the USB charger thing inside that was stuck), it all fell apart, and I thought I could just put it together in a way that looked right, but is probably making contacts that it shouldn't be. I've uploaded a new video.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtKngyzUZ9o&feature=youtu.be Now I'm thinking that maybe I should go to the auto store and buy a new cigarette lighter thing that is completely intact, and then connect it to the wires and see if that works? Oh - the screwed end part - well... that part I damaged and now there's just the push in part to add it to. Some young guy looked at it this afternoon and said that it was a soft aluminum thing added to the push on part, and he pulled it off, revealing what looks like the original end. That might not make any sense. I should have included that in the video, but I didn't put two and two together until late this evening. Anyway, thanks for all your help. I have certainly learned so much from this experience! |

Follow the wires of the cigarette lighter back about 6". There is a plug that you can disconnect and pull the outlet out where you can work on it. It is easiest to get to from either underneath or pull down the glove box. That is the way you are suppose to disconnect it to remove the bezel.

Replacing the cigarette lighter with one from the parts store should work but you may need to learn how to use crimp connectors or how to solder wires together. If you search around there are some screw together connectors you can use. They generally cost more but you won't need a tool or a new skill to use them. Here is one brand, they are available in some stores. http://www.posi-lock.com/ You will need to cut the end of the wires and strip back the insulation. On the blue wire, short answer is don't worry about it, you don't need it. It doesn't hood to anything that you have. Long answer is that it turns on when the radio turns on. It is normally hooked to a power antenna to make it go up when the radio is on or it is connected to an amplifier to turn it on when the radio is on. The antenna issue is only going to affect radio reception. The end of the big black wire that plugs into the back of the radio should have an end that has a post in the middle. The little look I got in the first video seemed to show that it just had a small copper wire in the middle. The piece that pulled off may have been an adaptor but if it pulled the end off the wire then the stereo will not get very good radio reception or it will cut in and out. |
