Hello Everyone, buying a Metro tonight! Advice Needed

Hello everyone, I've been a bicycle commuter for the last 6 years, but I think I've finally found a car I want to purchase.

I'm looking at a 1995 Geo Metro LSi sedan. It has had 1 owner, 88k miles, and looks to be in excellent shape.
Some research told me to look for rust. The muffler is pretty rusty, and there is a little rust where the mirrors meet the car, but I couldn't find any other rust under the car.
The car has been garage kept and was owned by an older lady who didn't drive it much.

The biggest issue is that the AC doesn't work. It blows, but not cold. The owner said the last time she had the refrigerant recharged it lasted about two weeks, so there is obviously a leak somewhere.

She is asking $1500. Do you think this is fair with AC broken? The rest of the car seems very clean and well taken care of, she has all of the maintenance records.

What can I expect to pay to repair the AC? Is this a repair that can be done at home?

The broken AC doesn't bother me. I usually only use the fan in cars anyway, but my dad thinks it will be an issue when it rains.

Thanks guys! I'm really loving this forum so far.

Nice! Thanks Old Man! I love that handle btw!

So it looks like a pretty good deal based on that guide. I'm going to double check for rust on the bottom side, but it looks like I'm going to be purchasing a car tonight!

Welcome to your new forum, tractuspk! :coffee

And a nice 42-55 mpg Geo will take longer to balance out your negative carbon footprint from 6 years of bicycle commuting. :lol

Little rust (humidity/ocean), garaged, it should not take much to fix the A/C and even at that you'll be saving gas if you only use it when it's "cold" outside.

It's a faster get away vehicle in case of hurricanes. :thumb

Here is a link to the Air Conditioning/Heating section. Not many threads.

Well, that looks clean. :thumb :thumb Is it yours? :-/ legally.

Those tire pressures OK?

And that is why I like a hatch... so much easier to get a body into.

It's mine legally.

The tires were low when I took the pic, and I don't know why I had the trunk open.

Yes there is, Boca Raton really, habit to write West Palm. What is crazy about this?
