Man wtf? Someone did some neat little mods to this Metro! You freaking scored on this one. My guess is someone had a gti parts car and just swapped everything over, too much stuff on this whip for someone to do all this work to it and then just let it go :hmm

Yea, I think I lucked out on this one. It even came with a spare motor and 5 speed transmission out of a great running vert. I have watched people score awesome deals over the years on this forum, I guess it was my turn finally.

The back 3 windows look a little different than most Metros as well. I don't see any window tint on them, but they appear to be a goldish tint. Like it is part of the glass itself. was this a feature on a certain Metro or Swift?

Sheesh, all for $800.... what a deal... takes a far amount of time to add those upgrades.... let alone find the parts to do it with if your doing it on the used parts cheap.

Yea, I definitely got lucky to find this one. I ended up talking to the guy who did all the upgrades to this rig, since it also included an extra motor and transmission that was located at somebody else's house in a different town. When I showed up there to pick up the motor, the guy who had this spare motor in his garage ended up being the guy who gave this car all the good love. He was a pretty cool guy who knew lots of stuff about Metros, so I would have to say this metro came with "good vibes" as well. The kid who sold it to me was a cool kat as well, and is apparently family with the guy who had the metro.

I stumbled across a post from David95237 when I was researching something not related to this Metro, and it was the answer to why this thing was running like crap. The post from David95237 was telling somebody that the difference between an early distributor and a late distributor was one of the lobes has a split tip on the late model. They look identical, other than this critical detail. I went out and pulled the cobwebs away and opened up the hood on this old project, and sure enough, one of the lobes had a late model split tip on one of the lobes. I had swapped the distributor around with a few that I have laying around the shop, but they all have the same lobes. Anyway, I put the correct distributor on, and she runs pretty sweet. Hopefully I can get around to getting her cleaned up and tagged. I had to put a few little goodies back in that I robbed for my 93 electric conversion project, but she is all back together now.

If you decide to snap a couple photos, I would like to know more about the distributor fix. It seems like the kind of thing that could go unsolved indefinitely if it hadn't landed in the right person's hands. Great find, with all of the upgrades and spares.

I have played with this Metro on and off over the last few months, and have used this forum as my FSM. I have all the little bugs worked out now as far as the engine goes, and am absolutely delighted with how it runs now. I have followed the advice of many forum members to properly adjust things that were messed with before I got the car, and now it runs very nicely. I was impressed with the amount of info that we have here to get an engine "dialed in". The search feature allowed me to find every little detail, adjustment, procedure, and spec.

I transferred the title when I bought this rig, but have not registered it or had it out on the road much. I wanted to get it running right, and there are other things I want to address before spending money on tags and insurance. Now that she runs like a sweet heart, I can deal with the suspension and the tires/wheels that don't work on this car. I also have all the "stuff" in the hatch that came with it, as well as all the trash and what not. The 1st and 2nd gear synchros are pretty bad, so I will have to come up with a transmission or visit David, our local metro transmission guy here in northern CA. Little by little....

Here are the two different distributors. You can see that one of the three lobes of the one on the right is a split tip. This is the OBD2. All three lobes on the one on the left are identical for OBD1

Thanks, that makes it plain as day. Would you guess then that someone had swapped the OBDII dist in there, it fit physically, but then gave up on it because it didn't run right?

I am not sure what the original problem was that the po was trying to fix, since everything was messed with. The gasket under the tbi was clocked wrong, plugs were gapped wrong, throttle plate was messed with and out of adjustment, wrong distributor, timing belt tensioner was loose, vacuum lines hooked up wrong, etc...

Other than that it ran great! B-)

Sounds as if the problem was the PO.
