Ok there i was no s $!# with 300 in my pocket and a car itch that could o ly be scratched by a moderatly ugly non running subcompact. So now i wave a question i have found a 91motor and trans for sale are the blocks interchangable with to op ends switched. Also are the trannys bolt in swicthable. Thanks all for the responses and lookforward to making zomewhat questionable transportation choices.

If you are talking about swaping a 3 cylinder for 3 cylinder then it is a direct swap. You will have to swap stuff from your engine to the 91 one. Use your intake and TBI, oil pump, crank and cam sprocket, Crank postion sensor, and distributor. I think that is it but I might be forgeting something.

Trans will swap as long as they are both manual trans. Auto will swap in but a lot more work. 91 trans will have a different finial ratio but for gas mileage that is a good thing. 96 trans ratio is 4.39 and 91 is 4.12 ratio.

95 3 cylinder has no crank position sensor. That also means the oil pump does not need to be changed. Swap the intake manifold and everything attached to it. 95 uses a different tooth style timing belt, to make parts shopping easier in the future change the cam and crank sprockets over as well as all the pulleys. Swap the distributor as there are some differences between years (I am less sure about this one being necessary, but it's easy so why not).

Transmission swap is not something I have delved into. The info provided looks good to me, same type will bolt in but the final ratio is different and I believe you will need to swap the speedo gear. Changing the trans type will require some major work, including welding brackets cut from the correct type of car or fabricating something to adapt one to the other.

When we swapped engines we replaced:
Crank front and rear seals
Tranny axle seals
Timing belt and tensioner
Alt. belt
Water pump
Clutch (all of it)
Tranny fluid
Oil/filter
Flushed coolant system, new antifreeze
Plugs/wires/rotor/cap

I would also suggest
Cam seal
Dist. O ring
Remanufactured axles with new CV boots
Oil pan gasket
