Hello! My torque app is giving me incompletes for the EVAP and 02 Sensor. Does that mean the ECU wont run those tests? I reset a large and small leak DTC, and an o2 sensor DTC about 3 times if that matters. On a side note. If im driving to g-mama's house this thursday in my automatic. Would it be better for MPG if I stayed at the lowest rpm's to keep the tranny in the final most gear? or would it be better to push 75 MPH? just wondering, thank you! |

Lowest speed to maintain D3 that still gets you to her house in time for the vittles. Because of the increase in aerodynamic drag as you go faster, a typical Metro takes almost double the hp to maintain 75 mph vs. 60 mph. At 50 mph, which should be a little over your minimum D2>D3 speed it takes 1/3 the hp of 75. In addition to the aerodynamic drag, the G10's maximum fuel efficiency (bsfc) lies in a band between about 2800-3500 rpm, and the engine's efficiency decreases noticeably above that point. There's about a 13% drop-off from maximum by the time you get to roughly 4,300 rpm, and almost 40% at 5,100. You exceed the "high end" of the most efficient range in a heartbeat with the automatic. If the ECM is setting codes, its running the tests, and doesn't like what it sees. Time to get into the FSM and see what code it prioritizes to address first and start following the diagnostics. It's very possible that it keeps setting the diagnostic trouble codes over and over because it has diagnosed you have trouble.

ahh thanks for the response myredvert. The thing is a drove it for 90 miles and about full tank to about half and it did not display DTCs that I regulary get and the Emissions read this: http://imgur.com/GdMPXwA I am going to take the battery ground on and off then try driving it again and see if I get any DTC's or if it will run the monitors. There's no difference between pushing that reset button, and disconnecting the battery in the car to reset the monitors. You're just resetting them over and over and getting the same result. 90 miles might not be enough to get all the tests done, especially if it was all highway, they want a variety of different conditions. It's probably done them all, those two have failed, and it's going to try a couple more times before it throws the failure code. The EVAP code is probably a rusted out filler neck, could be a bad gas cap, but that doesn't happen often. Whatever, there's a leak somewhere. The O2 code could be quite a few different things, from a bad electrical connection to a worn out engine. What is the exact code it's throwing for the O2? PS: 75 mph is too fast for an automatic to run and expect any sort of mileage. |
