Thanks for the welcome, I'm a mechanic by trade so maybe I can help a few members out on here. This new project I've gotten my self into has turned into a lot more than I was expecting. Calling the local part stores and yards was a joke |

hi james. we were all new at one time or another - except for me and old man. ![]() we're as old as dirt so in actuality the cars and forum are catching up to us. ![]() let me suggest that since you are going to replace parts on that base model metro, find the knuckles, hubs, brake calipers, and rotors as well as rear drums from a convertible model and use those parts as upgrade replacements. the vert knuckles and hubs give you rotor over hub design with it's ease of brake service. you don't have to pull the hub every time you want to replace the rotor. the wheel bearings are much better, too. also, the base model uses solid rotors that are notorious for warping (as well as providing inferior braking.) the vert rotors are a ventilated design and don't warp easily. the vert calipers provide better braking effect and the larger brake pads cover a larger swept area. the vert hubs are fitted with 12mm lugs instead of the base model's 10mm lugs and the vert rear drums are likewise equipped. the verts used larger 13" diameter wheels (available on 95+ cars along with the verts) to provide room for the larger calipers and 12mm lugs but another consideration is that you have a much better choice of tires in that size. the conversion has been discussed many times. i tend to build these cars to my liking and i don't think that i have ever not converted a base model's brakes to something better. yes, vert brakes are that much better.
