I had the same issue on my '91. It was just the settings. I had to reset the throttle-stop, the idle screw, timing, and the throttle switch. Did this come on suddenly? Have you been dealing with it for the last 30k miles on this rebuild? Need background.

First off...Welcome to the Fun :greet ...next Oddmodman was right about needing more info...but there is a big possibility the timing belt jumped a tooth or you developed a huge vacuum leak... :type

a huge vacuum leak would give a racing idle, computer judges idle rpm based on the map sensor, not the actual rpm. this would lead to fuel cut....aka surging idle.

yes the belt being off a tooth may be the cause of the stalling.....idle certainly will be weak, but he has fast idle while cold, and idle is to slow once warm.

this is a 91. the FIAV raises the idle while engine is cold, and closes as engine gets warmed. its closed by the expansion of a meltig wax pellet....heated by engine coolant. once warm the AIC valve controls idle speed and is controlled by the ECM. THE SPRING FREQUENTLY BREAKS (sorry caps lock) on the solinoid causing it to be stuck open, or closed.

luckly you can test and rebuild the AIC for free in just a few minutes. http://geometroforum.com/topic/4804867/1/ aic rebuild, by SNOWFISH
