I rechecked the voltage at the TPS with a .140" feeler gauge. The reading was 1.06 volts. Not too far off since the FSM says it should be set between .98 and 1.02-

I reset it to 1.00 and the engine now surges at idle.

I now once in a while get a EGR code (PO400). I know the computer uses the TPS readings as one of the signals to control fuel injection,the ISC motor and EGR solenoid vacuum valve.

Anyone else had problems with surging after setting the TPS back to factory settings?

I know Triple Threat has .

sorry double post.

MMM says;

Of course now I can't trash it since that would make the following comments not make sense.

Like I had said many o' time. You gotta set it at different settings .01 of a volt at a time between .98 to 1.02 volts, unblock the throttle, start the car and test each setting until it does not surge and the ISC responds correctly. At least that what I had to do. It would have been faster and easier with an assistant. Could be possible your TPS is malfunctioning if your are unable to achieve the proper setting and function.
I'll try adjusting it tomorrow .01 at a time. I'll also check the signal voltage at the computer connection and make sure it is the same. If it won't run within the factory specs I'll swap it and see if that helps.

I got to work on it a little this morning. I went ahead and changed the TPS and set the voltage to .98 volts. Started it up and it ran good, went to 1600 rpm and idled down as it warmed up. Once it got down to 1000 rpms it started surging. Ran out of time to try a different setting to see if it would help.

When the engine starts to surge what is the computer seeing to make it shut off the fuel and then turn it back on causing the surge?

o2 sensor has no effect on idle, during idle the computer uses a seperate fueling/timing map. this is standad for all cars any make any fuel injected year.
full throttle also has its own seperate mapping.......again for any vehical.

ill answer tripplethreats post regarding the TPS and fueling this evening when i have time.

Sounds like a good idea. Won't cost you anything but your time and may get you closer to where you want to be with it. Let us know how it goes.

Edit. Your 96' runs well, correct?
My 96 runs great, that was until tonight when I got off work. It started to surge on the way home.

Had five Metros, a Swift, an Aerio, and a Kizashi. Drove them about 900K miles without a single idle issue. As long as no one has gone in there and fucked it up, they're never a problem.
