Correct. I figured that. I thought I'd run down to the store and pick up a cable and see indeed it really is the ignition wire. I'll see if I can create a relay jumper to see whether the starter is working properly.

If it is indeed the ignition wire, it'd be only $7 or so.

It could just be that it's frigging cold outside. Leave the headlights on for 5-10 minutes. The current draw will warm up the battery, and then it might put out enough amps to turn the engine over. That's how I got the wife's Tracker started this morning. :)

I was thinking that. It's been averaging 0 to 5 F every morning and 15 F at best during the day.

Hell I don't even leave the battery out in this weather, bring it in and hook up the harbor freight battery trickle-charger.

I had a similar problem to this about 6 months ago.

Turned out that the battery cable terminals and the batter posts were really dirty. I went round and round and round and round... New alternator, almost bought a new battery, new terminals, etc....

Tested the battery FOUR different times - read perfect every time... Finally, the last battery store guy says "Hey, let me clean off these posts real good before you put it back in - and take the brush and go clean off your terminals too....

Put the battery back in...

Ka-Zoom! Cooking with gas!

That's literally all it was....

Then you aren't using Walmart's line of Neverstart batteries. The electrolyte evaporates in the summer, and they have zero cold cranking amps. When I went to buy one for the Metro, they wanted twice what the one in my truck cost. So, I decided that if it will start a 360, it will start a G13. Works fine so far. :P

After reading some responses, I decided to test my battery. I went to HF and bought a battery load tester.

Before testing the battery, I checked the headlights -- it was bright. I turned off the headlights and connected the load tester. The battery reported 12.6 volts.

Then I load tested it for about 8 seconds and the voltage rapidly dropped. When I stopped the load, it didn't come back up past 12 volt. Another 5 second load and the battery kept dropping. I turned on the headlights and it became dim rapidly and then soon enough pretty much the battery has no voltage left at all. I did not even load it for more than 15 seconds total. No light or anything in the dash, no headlights.

I got the battery last year from Walmart. It's an Everstart battery with 2 years warranty. Do you guys think it's the battery or was it not charged enough? I don't want to blame the battery just yet...

Edit:

Oh that's hilarious, someone's talking about Walmart batteries...

I'll have to bring the battery to Walmart and pretty much ask for a replacement or a refund. I'd consider either Autozone's or Advance Auto Parts' batteries. I'm looking at the Optima.

Good bye

Your battery needs to have 10.5 volts with a 200 amp load on it, it needs to do this for at least 20 seconds. I load check batteries at work every service, my bucket trucks have a "dc" emergency lowering pump and I can tell if it sounds right.
