The FSM battery check is located in Section 6D1, Battery.

(link>>) Section 6D1, Battery check begins on page 4. As far as the required loads/durations, etc...
Quote:

A. Connect a battery load tester across the battery terminals (Figure 4).
B. Apply a 300 ampere load for 15 seconds to remove the surface charge from the battery.
C. Remove the load and wait 15 seconds to let the battery recover.
D. Apply 190 amperes to the battery.
Measure
• Battery voltage after 15 seconds.
E. Remove the load.
F. If the voltage does not drop below the minimum voltage listed in Figure 5, the battery is good and should be returned to service. (The battery temperature must be estimated by feel and by the temperature the battery had been exposed to for the preceding few hours.)
G. If the voltage drops below the minimum listed in Figure 5, replace the battery.
The chart (figure 5) lists the appropriate minimum voltages from 9.6V @ 70 F to 8.5V @ 0 Degrees F

Forgot His Manpurse

Returned Walmart EverStart battery, got $87 dollars back, including core charge.
Bought Optima Red Top from AAP for $159.99 (warrantied from January 2015).
Bought two brass tops for $7.00 total.
Cleaned all grounds on the firewall, including motor wiper's (forgot that one).
Cleaned grounds attached to the solenoid and alternator.
Tightened ground to the alternator (it was loose).
Brushwired exposed wires between starter and solenoid and all other cables to the battery.
Pried back alternator to make belt tighter and to reduce squealing.
Cleaned PCV valve because I smelled oil and saw oil residue in the air filter (could be why I had lower than average MPG).
Cleaned Y tube connecting between the PCV valve and air cleaner housing (it was full of crud).
Installed battery and lubricated bottom ends of the posts with vaseline to prevent corrosion.
Tested battery at 12.6 volts. With full load (headlights, heater, domelight, headlights all on) and engine on, showed 13 volts which means the alternator is doing its job.
Car started up so far three times without fail... with temps being 6 degrees this morning and later -4 degrees today.
So we'll see how it goes from there.
Total cost so far: $80.00~.

I got the battery last year from Walmart. It's an Everstart battery with 2 years warranty. Do you guys think it's the battery or was it not charged enough? I don't want to blame the battery just yet...
You should have been blaming the battery in the store, before you bought it, when you saw that it had a two year warranty.

I was only 11 months into the warranty! And I think it's pretty standard to have just 2 years warranty.
