Forenza Cluster; Would it fit?

Ok, I'm going to back off a little. I have it in hand and it appears the top edge was made a little lower than the Metro assembly. It could be an illusion from the different design but it will have to wait a little before I can start checking to see if it physically fits. I will try to find a little time to check the fitment over the weekend and I may play with the housing a little before then just to see what the individual parts are like and see what can possibly be swapped. On the good side I don't have the cluster surround in on my car so there isn't a lot to remove to get mine out and the plugs have been undone enough times they usually come out pretty easily. I'll keep everyone updated and will shoot some pics later.

Weeeeeellllllll some more bad news...

This is not a screw in replacement. The mounting tabs are further apart by an inch or two and the cluster actually won't fit in the hole as it is slightly bigger. That being said it is not a dead issue since it is very close and the tabs will still screw into the dash. It appears some plastic will have to be cut to fit it in but it should fit with some work. I still need to check how the surround will fit over the cluster to see if it covers anything.

More to come...

Couldn't you just use a metro cluster surround and put the forenza guts into it? Or is the circuit board too big?

It would have to be trimmed down to fit inside and all the mounting points are going to be wrong. Once I have the parts necessary to test it out I will see if it can be made to work and if it will I will then go to the trouble to make it fit.

So I've been told I have a vehicle speed sensor in my automatic transmission, would it be possible to piggyback the signal off of it to make the speedometer work on a cluster I got from the wrecker?

Gonna suggest something that may take care of all the translation from geo to forenza and back. Raspberry Pi. Mini computer that's a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes. Speedo cable? Run to a gear with a sensor on it. Temp sensors? Run to a usb buss bar hooked to it. If you cam think of it, I'd wager quite a bit that the Pi can do it. And its only $35ish with operating system

Great big maybe. It all depends on what they used for a speed signal for both. If it's the same it will work. If it's different then it is probably going to read the wrong speed or if it's really different it won't work at all.

It makes no difference which VSS you use. Either the one in the cluster or the one in the transmission (auto only) They both output the same thing:

4000 PPM

But the Forenza is looking for:

8000 PPM
