So the gear on the speed sensor is going to need double the normal amount of teeth... Hmmmm :hmm

Or a 2nd trigger...

Might be just enough of a push to sit down and figure out my 3D printer. Kits to adapt a Forenza cluster to a Metro... or converted Forenza clusters for sale...

Things are stacking up against this being easy. I was looking at the lower portion of the opening and the Forenza cluster will not be able to be screwed into it, the tabs will have to be moved or removed.

It makes no difference which VSS you use. Either the one in the cluster or the one in the transmission (auto only) They both output the same thing: 4000 PPM
Having the horrible habit of reading the FSM that I do, I was under the impression that the VSS used in the Metro outputs 4 pulses per 1 revolution of the speedometer cable, which the ECM then uses to then calculate the speed output using time along with the appropriately programmed tire diameter.

Are all speedometer gears somehow standardized across the industry to produce some standardized amount of ppm?

[edited, because I thought the ppm was pp minute instead of pp mile.] Thanks David :thumb

Looks like that should work as a back up. If I can get it done with a used Esteem VSS that bolts into our transmission I want to go that direction for cost and convenience.

This one will allow you to calibrate the speedometer.

I was just wondering if anyone realized these were completely different companies. Sure, it's vaguely the same shape, but unlikely that anything else is compatible.

If it doesn't work, we'll make it work. Lol one way or another.

And if it doesn't work, i have a suzuki tracker instrument cluster that is nearly identical with it's layout. I have a feeling it's processing will understand my car. Just swap out the guts and face plates. I've been waiting though because I want to see how this goes down.

In all honesty I have come to the conclusion the cost/effort outweighs the profit on this one :news

This is no Esteem seat swap or Civic armrest. This is messing with the integrated and highly developed wiring of a car to put a slightly different looking speedometer in. Much like the common yield sign I would slow down and approach with caution

Doesn't really make a difference to me because I've already done too much rewiring to my rust bucket. Lol considering I have an automatic, I'm not deleting any VSS signal to the ecu, but I'll be piggy backing. I've driven my car with no gauge cluster! 😝
